The building is beautiful and very old. Could use some renovations but still the winding staircase is a great place for wedding shots.

Louisiana Old State Capitol building in Baton Rouge is a National Historic Landmark of Gothic Architecture. Whether passing through or staying in the area, don’t miss this beautiful, old building. The political history of Louisiana is very interesting to read especially that of Huey Long. There is also an movie about the Ghosts of the Castle which is an additional... More

I love to be here and take some pictures. But unfortunately, I went there when it close, so I didn't have chance to see inside of.

We are Canadians so visiting the state capitol did not really have a lot of meaning for us. We really enjoyed the observation deck on the 27th floor which gave us amazing aerial views of the area.

I visited this beautiful old building and really enjoyed the rich history that I learned. I was given a free audio guide and spent a very informative hour learning about the history of this lovely, interesting building (the spiral staircase is beautiful).

Make sure to do the audio tour it really adds to your experience. We also liked the "Ghost of the Castle" 4D movie. We picked up the book and it is very informative.

It's obvious they have long done things differently in Louisiana. The old capitol looks like a castle -- crenelated turrets and all. The structure itself is quite grand and the displays really bring Louisiana history to life.
