Go beyond the myths of the Old South and walk in the footsteps of 4 generations of one Creole family, both free and enslaved, who lived together in complicated, intimate family relationships on this sugar plantation that remained a world apart from the United States through the first decades of the 20th century. Laura is open daily from 9:30AM - 5PM except for major holidays. The first tour of the day begins at 10AM with tours beginning approximately every 40 minutes thereafter until the last tour of the day at 4PM. We did sugar cane plantations in geography in uk in 1980s and this was a very interesting plantation to visit. Stephen our guide was very knowledgable and easy to listen to. This is not a grand gone with the wind type plantation but a more humble creole historic site. Very pleased be stopped at this one on spec and got... More

So glad we took this little detour and visited this Creole Plantation. Our tour guide Madison was nice, friendly and very knowledgeable. Loved all the history he told us of the Creoles, Louisiana, the plantation itself and it's founding and owners, slaves, plantation life, etc etc. The tour takes an hour or so but it's not boring at all. I... More

Our guide Maddison gave us an informative, amusing and thought provoking guide to this excellent plantation home. The house and grounds are beautiful, but the historical information as to the people and culture of Creole families, especially their relationship with their slaves was fascinating, moving and horrifying in equal measure. Maddison said he was new to the role, but he appeared... More

Outstanding. The tour was reasonably priced and our tour guide Alex was extremely sharp. A TCU graduate originally from La. she shared a lot of information in a relatively short period of time. Her knowledge of the family, operation of the plantation, slavery, and social culture was superb. Note: If driving yourself, plantation is almost an hour northwest of the... More

Laura is a lovely plantation to visit. The house and grounds are very interesting but the story of the plantation is perhaps the most intriguing draw.

This was really an incredible and historical visit. You will tour the "Planter's house" and see two Slaves caban (houses!). During the tour, the guide explained the life of the families that established this plantation. A very difficult life for the masters but even worse for the 190 slaves that the plantation has had. The particularity of this Creole plantation... More

A must see if you find yourself in southern Louisiana, Madison, the young guide that showed us around was fantastic, he managed to tell us the story of the family that owned the plantation and the slaves that lived there with a perfect mix of humour and horror, I was certainly moved when he was talking about the terrible lives that... I had visited many plantations in other areas of USA, but knew very little about creole culture and Laura is the perfect place to learn and to see into history. Southern Louisiana is a beautiful area with a different and interesting way to look into history. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and helped explain the history of the plantation... More
