Very Bad Attitude
Jul. 2021 • Family
Our group of 4 was greeted by a lovely lady at the entrance of the drive to Hopetoun House. She scanned our online tickets, directed us to the car park and told us where to wait for our tour. We did as instructed but on our way an old man shouted at our group and another family heading to the house. As he was a good distance away and we couldn’t make out what he was shouting about, we all stopped until he caught up with us. We were all questioned (very rudely) by him, why we there and if we had an appointment and how had we entered the grounds. Myself and the other group (who had young children with them) told him we had booked tickets online for entry to the house and grounds and had arrived by car. At this point he grumbled under his breath and said we had to check in at a hut which was in the car park and then stormed off with no apology. We all went to the hut but it was locked up. This was really not a good start! We guessed he must have been ‘Lord of the Manor’ disgruntled at having to sell out to commercialism to upkeep his stately home but by the family photos we saw in the house that doesn’t seem to be the case. The rest of the visit was average but we will not return or recommend after thIs display of disgraceful behaviour.

Stunning house
Jul. 2021 • Couples
Spent an enjoyable few hours here on a sunny afternoon.
Not many rooms to see within the house the staff were friendly and knowledgeable loved the elderly gentleman tour guide he was so smartly dressed and great to chat to.
We had a lovely walk in the grounds watched the deer grazing and enjoyed the sea views I would say the walks would benefit by having a few more rest places a nice bench to enjoy the views more.
Would love to return when the cafe is up and running.

Wonderful day out
Jul. 2021 • Friends
My mum and I visited one Saturday. The system in place for Covid is easy to follow, the house is amazing to wander round. The little horse box cafe is small with not a lot of choice, mainly hot drinks, crisps and cake. It will be wirth going back when the Stables Restaurant is open again. There is a lot of history around the House. After our cup if tea, we wandered round the grounds, looking out on the Forth and over to Blackness Castle.

A Grand Day Out
Jun. 2021 • Couples
Very enjoyable day out.
Living in Falkirk I often pass signposts pointing directions to Hopetoun House but never thought about visiting, but so very glad I did.
The house itself is grand, beautifully and majestic….during the drive up it’s gates then beyond you can almost hear music in your head from your favourite period drama.
The grounds are lovely too and on a nice day a splendid walk can be had but what impressed me the most is the staff who work there! Most knowledgable, kind and polite, never were we rushed and we were able to spend much time in each beautiful room and were narrated a very interesting history of the family and the house past and present.
Highly recommended

Overpriced Wondrous Woods
Nov. 2020
Not so Wondrous, not very much to see, mainly lights along a pathway, a few pictures show mini displays and a few whispers in the trees. 3/4 way there is a coffee/hot chocolate/doughnut and marshmallow stop point with overpriced refreshments. The hot chocolate was more on the warm side instead of hot so did nothing to warm up and the doughnuts although freshly made were very greasy.

Small hot chocolate at £3.50 for an extra 50p its classed as luxury with cream and mini marshmallows added
Mini tub of candyfloss £4.00 which is available at pound shops for yup you guessed it £1
Ticket price for a family of 4 £55 which included parking

Extremely disappointed, do not recommend and will not return!

Place full of history
Sep. 2020 • Friends
This place is full of history but also great treat for the Outlander fans. Beautiful architecture and the grounds around the place with great views. Many Outlander scenes were filmed here. The tour guide ( Fiona if I remember well) was very knowledgeable not only about the history of the place but also about the filming of Outlander. Wonderful place to visit. Definitely recommend.

Perfect antidote
Oct. 2020 • Solo
I'd highly recommend the ranger-led tree walk. Small group size to ensure Covid distancing was just right for this informal, informative walk. Tree identification far easier when standing next to these magnificent real life examples. I noticed lots of things I'd have otherwise missed. Friendly, knowledgeable ranger and volunteer each contributed snippets about tree folklore and Hopetoun House history. Remember to check route to Hopetoun before setting off as I made mistake of putting postcode in which led to quite a detour, signs on site for the Wondrous Woods event caused a bit of confusion as the actual route out meant passing a no exit sign. The blustery weather and autumnal colours were the perfect antidote in these strange times and where else are you actively encouraged to hug? (trees). Definitely recommended.

Wonderful “Wondrous Woods”
Oct. 2020 • Couples
We went to the Wondrous Woods event last night. What a magical time we had amongst the transformed woods. The organisation could not be faulted. I would highly recommend going.
