Wood Island Light House

Stopped on a walk and could view this in Biddeford ,ME. So Pretty. Went to a sanctuary and you had some nice trails all along the water and a great view of the light house.

We wanted to see a lighthouse before leaving Maine. Due to poor research we did not realize until we got closer that it was on an island. It was tricky to get a view but thanks to a local we found a trail that took us between private property to a great location.

This was a great summertime tour starting with a ride in an aluminum landing craft. There is no dock on Wood Island! The half mile walk to the lighthouse is not difficult and the views from the island and the top of the lighthouse are incredible. It is interesting that only a crew of volunteers take care of this lighthouse... More

We were looking for this as love lighthouses and were on our way to Nubble, but wanted to see this one first. I had done research to see where it was located, but never really gave a location to view it the best. We rode around for awhile until were able to get an OK picture from afar. I'd suggest... More

We loved the short boat ride out to the island. The tour guides were knowledgeable. We loved the comfortable walk to the lighthouse. We were able to climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse where the panoramic views were great. If flexibility is an issue, the little door at the top of the stairs, may present a problem... This is a beautiful island with a lighthouse tower and inn keeper's house. Scenic views are panoramic and lovely. History and stories are fascinating. Restoration in progress and will be amazing to see upon completion. Highly recommended trip. Go online for tickets for the boat ride/tour.

A friend of ours was supposed to come up from NH to go on this tour with us, but she got sick. One of my co-workers was able to go with her friend. Our tour was FANTASTIC. We loved the boat ride out, the tour guides knew their stuff. We loved the walk to the lighthouse and loved being able... More

Wood Island Lighthouse is best seen from land in Biddeford Pool, Maine. You'll walk close to a mile in and out alongside a golf course. If you have small children, be prepared to carry them as the walking trail is heavily wooded. Once you arrive at the point, the views of the lighthouse are magnificent. For the adventurous, there is... More

Visited Vines Landing, Biddeford Pool on October 15. The boat tours to the Wood Island Lighthouse were over for the season, but we got some great views of the lighthouse and water. Parking is limited (about four spots) but we were the only one's there and it was a beautiful, sunny morning. We plan to return next year so we... More

If you're a lighthouse lover, this trip can't be beat. You get to ride in a small boat that holds about a dozen (it's a miniature WWII-type landing craft with a steel bow that drops down), tour an uninhabited Audubon protected island, and go up into a Class 4 lens lighthouse. The tour guides (volunteers) are very informative (the boat... More
