Last Summer ( 2017 ) I visited Boothbay Harbour and the Eventide store. I picked out a nice bottle of wine and when I got to the cash it was more expensive than what the tag was. They did not honour the price but the increase was marginal so I bought it anyway. My mistake, but figured it was an honest mistake by the retailer.
So, one year later ( June 2018 ) I decided to visit the store again and picked out a nice bottle of wine this time with a price of $25. When I got to the cash they said, oh sorry, this bottle of wine is $75 and we made a mistake at pricing. They then asked me if I wanted to purchase that bottle at that new price and I said absolutely not. I suggested that there may be a requirement to honour the price on the product and if there was a mistake it should be absorbed by the retailer. Needless to say I was very disappointed and will not be returning to that store. Be careful if you choose to visit that store and check the pricing when cashing out.

Dear Peter W ... I am very sorry you state you have had two instances were there have been price discrepancies. We try to always honor the price listed on products and my staff always knows to get me if there's a problem. We are a small shop and make every effort to mark our products fairly and accurately. When there is something priced incorrectly, the customer usually pays the lesser amount. As a retailer I absorb a lot. Unfortunately, with wine, we have to mark bottles inconspicuously as an anti-theft measure because a few customers have attempted to remove our price tags from bottles and re-price bottles at a lower price. I am, in no way, stating that is what happened here. What I am saying is, I as a retailer, for example, can't even purchase a bottle Chateauneuf de Pape for a cost of $25.00 let alone sell one at that price. If there is an erroneous price tag on an expensive bottle, the bottle is not for sale. I do my best. I have an amazing shop and an amazing staff and an amazing customer base. I apologize for your disappointment.

The absolute best experience for everything delicious. We've tried almost everything in the store from the great selection of unique local, regional and international cheeses, to the incredible selection of fresh baked goodies and breads, to incredible olive oils and vinegars. There is also an amazing selection of wines. You can't beat Eventide's unique selections. There are even great kitchen accessories from pottery to serving utensils.
Best of all, are the owner and staff who are knowledgeable about all the products, and just the nicest people you ever want to meet. When you're in Boothbay Harbor, don't pass on a visit to Eventide. You won't regret it (and your tummy will be incredibly happy!) :-)

Eventide Specialties is an inviting riot of color and taste, with something for everyone. Its owners had a vision of providing pure and tasty oils and vinegars, with an international appeal.
They initially ranged in flavor from ones like Blackberry Ginger Dark Balsamic, Herbs de Provence Infused Olive Oil, to Persian Lime fused Olive Oil, to name just a few of the early line-up.
To those, they added pasta in various flavors, sauces, tapenade and spreads (both sweet and/or savory), spices, salts, peppers, sugars, pates and caviar. Soon they included exotic chocolates and cocoas, hand-made biscotti, honey, mushrooms, jams, marmalade, and dipping plates. Next up, there were hearth made artisan breads and a head-spinning array of delightful cheeses.
Having educated their enthusiastic customers to all their available exotic tastes, how could they not make the most recent expansion into pairing fine wines with their other tempting offerings?
At this time, the breath of product offerings is almost overwhelming. But the good women who had this vision are only too happy to help each and every person who arrives. In a Maine winter of 2015 that featured snow to the top of the door jam, Eventide Specialties was closed for business only two days.

Picked up a bottle of wine for our afternoon harbor cruise. The woman near the wine section in the back was really helpful and patient (found us an affordable screw-top Riesling). Cute shop, lots of olive oils to sample, chocolates and cheese. Well-staffed and conveniently downtown.

Honestly, if I could live in this shop, I would. It smells like baking bread (because delicious bread is always being baked), the ladies are lovely, the cheese choices are amazing, and the specialty foods are delicious. I can always find great things to eat and wonderful gifts. Chocolate, jams, oils, vinegars, wine, breads, cheese.....you get the idea! I walked in this afternoon after a rather frantic day of shopping, cooking, and getting ready for a group of 20 on Christmas eve. This shop just makes everything seem all right. Of course they have chutneys, yes here's some sherry, please taste the cheese, and we will have your bread order all ready for you tomorrow. They should bill themselves as a food spa; it's that wonderful! Thank you Eventide!
