I enjoyed the short video and the tour and was surprised to learn that Rufus Porter had so many patents for inventions. He led a fascinating life. I expected to see more of his original murals -- there were a few original panels, but mostly prints and photos of his work. The miniature profiles he did were interesting. Nice little gift shop. They hope to build an addition to house more of his original work, which hopefully they get funding for.

A friend who is quite familiar with Rufus Porter’s art suggested that we take the museum tour. Porter was a true polymath - artist (landscapes, portraits), inventor (rotating stock revolver, air ship, and many more), teacher and editor/publisher of Scientific American. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and the collection, while not enormous, was beautifully curated. Highly recommend a visit - Bridgton is a delightful town, as well.

Rufus Porter was an inventor, founder of Scientific American, and a self-taught muralist. This charming little museum collection spotlights his discoveries and his art. I first visited in 2017 to attend one of a series of folk art classes that the museum sponsors for a week in July, and again last week. The gift shop has a nice selection of books and some handmade items from local artists. I've enjoyed all the classes that I have taken, and look forward to visiting Bridgton again next year.

The 15 minute video was interesting and the docents were eager to tell us about Rufus Porter, his artwork and inventions. There is not much in the way of displays, but it is fascinating to learn about a person who invented so many things.
