You can call ahead to pick up things from the store, but the campus is closed for 2020. Beautiful grounds, and a nice country drive to get there.

My son and I spent a week at the Wooden Boat School in Brooklin, ME. What a great experience. The accommodations were spartan but comfortable. The meals were provided and all were very good. At the end of the week we had a lobster bake to cap off the week. As good as all of that was the opportunity to learn the art of boat building from excellent teachers (and other students) was just downright awesome. If have ever wondered what goes into building a boat please investigate this school. You will not regret it!…

We decided to visit the Wooden Boat school though we were not, nor ever will be, students and are so glad we did. The setting is rustic and beautiful. situated right on the bay. The gift shop had a nice array of wearablesand gifts as well as kits and plans to make model wooden boats. Those who have wooden boats will find some nice fixtures to add to their creations. We went near the end of the day, which allowed us the freedom to walk around through the workshop- classrooms, where students were still making small wooden projects, large fabric wrapped kayaks and a variety of smaller wooden boats. We also happened to be there on Regatta weekend, the first weekend in August, with boats from all over feeding into the area. The night before, boat owners and friends gather on the school grounds for barbecue and entertainment. We missed the regatta because of a rainy morning and our early departure but it is destination-worthy in the future.…

Instructors are friendly interesting and with no upper limit on what they can teach. I’m a beginner but the advanced students were just as interested and busily engaged on related things. The other students are doing something they like and everybody has a good time and is pleasant. I’m a woman almost 60 yrs old, but there are some in their 20s and 30s. Lodging is comfortable, different possible sites on campus have each have good beds, hot showers and coffee but varying levels of fanciness. The cooks make lunches ordered individually and group meals are a great old-style resort buffet. I’ve taken Sailing I and II, Cruising, Mary Day, Navigation, all fantastic that’s why I keep going back. Price is very reasonable for the amount I learn. A fabulous diesel engine class had 6 different yacht engines and exercises like ‘Evil Genius Saboteur’ where each team works to figure out how to fix what the other team jinked up. Since this is real world, the other team ended up helping and things had to be fixed that they hadn’t jinked. Oil / water / fuel / air / antifreeze, pumps, filters, lines, gaskets, bolt sizing, starters, injectors, alternators, bilge pumps, batteries, emergencies.…
