About
Fishing For Success (F4S) is a volunteer-based nonprofit social enterprise museum located in Petty Harbour that works to transmit the intangible cultural heritage of Newfoundland & Labrador's family fishery. We advocate for an inclusive, gender-equitable & sustainable small-scale fishery that can help combat climate change and contribute to food sovereignty through better local seafood access. We provide free or reduced-cost programming for women, children, youth, newcomers, and Indigenous community members by partnering with other like-minded nonprofits. We generate revenue by offering unique and exciting visitor, special occasion, and conference experiences. Through our partnership with Project WET Canada and the development of our experiential Sea2School program, we are providing resources that connect youth in coastal communities to fishing as a cornerstone of ocean literacy and food equity.

The staff is making a valiant effort to recreate the “Rooms” (fishing shacks) of yesteryear and provide a learning experience on how they were used and how fish and seafood were harvested. It attracts school and travel groups and our experience included a boat ride to learn about fishing as well as do a bit of whale watching, a craft project, and a tasting of moose sausage, snow crab, seal meat and various local and traditional salads, along with several items for dessert. It is a good 5 hour experience. in a beautiful little harbor, run by people who are trying to make a difference by keeping traditions alive.

Such a unique look into the history of fishing villages in Newfoundland. Kimberly and Leo provided such an amazing experience and I enjoyed every minute. It was such a nice touch to taste some Newfoundland delicacies! I can't wait to come back to the beautiful town of Petty Harbour and share this experience with others!

Kids and adults loved this tour. The boat tour was great. Learned some neat rope skills. Also a few old technics about boat and dock repair. We also tried some food caught and cooked by owners. Had a great time. 19 of us did the tour at the same time

A windefukly unique way to experience one of Newfoundland’s gems. My young adult kids were keen to try something distinctly “unToronto” and our day in Petty Harbour was it. We had such a fun day with Kimberly, Captain Leo and the entire F4S crew. It felt like we were hanging out with new ‘old friends’. They shared stories and we learned about the local history and marine life. My daughter donned a yellow rubber outfit and was delighted to haul in giant cod, her fake nails be damned. My son cut the tongues out of our haul of fish and put them in the fry pan for a way-tastier-than-we-thought-they’d-be fried cod tongues. Captain Leo showed us how to fillet and gut a fish and Meghan helped us create unique fish art. We had two wonderful meals from the day’s catches and the biggest ice creams we ever did see at Tinkers. We so appreciated the laid back atmosphere and the forced slow pace of the local landscape and its people. An ordinary day in Petty Harbour was pretty extraordinary for us.
