the light house is ok, but there is a sign that suggest taking the path behind the barn, no other markings. We were not sure which was the barn, and felt uncomfortable walking through the yard with the children's ball laying in the grass. There...More

The light house is not the main attraction, it's the pathway along the backyard that leads to steep stairs to the ocean edge. If you can manage the short, uneven walk, rewarded with a great place for relaxing, exploring and picnic. Very much a getaway...More

Epic set of stairs going down to the rocks that are so explorable on this rocky edge of Castine! I've been here quite a few times and explore Witherle Woods too. I'm always respectful and conscious about the privacy of the folks that live at...More

Way off the beaten path. Loved it the view when you got to the Oceanside was very nice. Woods surrounded you and it was very peaceful.

Fun walk down wooden stairs to the ocean on to a great big slab of concrete and a framework for a light. You will have a great time and the views can not be beat.

We visit lighthouses where ever we go. We live on the water and always are enchanted by lighthouses and the stories behind them. This is a very nice one that we recommend for you to visit.

I really enjoyed the walk/climb to the water's edge. It was a sunny day, so I was wearing sandals. I would suggest wearing more appropriate shoes.

It was a nice morning walk to get here. We tried to get a sunrise pix, but our luck is that normally does not work and the luck played out. Very nice sitting and listening to the birds wake up.

If you have an extra hour in Castine, this is a great way to spend it. You might even have the path all to yourself, with great photo opportunities of the lighthouse on the way back up.

Now in private hands, you still are allowed on the grounds, and to walk the foot path to the waters edge. It was worth the effort even though the view is most obstructed by tree.
