There is much to see and do at Base Borden. Firstly you can just drive around and see all the cool tank displays. Next is the tank museum, admission is free. Lastly there is the CANEX, it contains a Tim's, Subway, and some pizza joint. The CANEX has military themed clothes and gear for sale.
Several things to keel in mind when visiting, firstly access may be controlled. You could be asked to show ID at the gate, most times however there is no manned gate. Next is speed, go below the speed limit at all times. The Military Police will pull you over if you're travelling 41 in a 40 zone.

Base Borden is a great place to come and explore. You can drive all over the base and check out a lot of Tanks and Military vehicles. They also offer free air shows some years which are great and always busy. On the base you can find 2 golf courses, volleyball courts, baseball fields, Tim Hortons, Pizza Pizza, and etc.

Lots of history to be discovered on Base Borden. There is a tank park you can climb on the tanks and take pictures. The local museum is very interesting, lots to see. If you are a Military buff this is a great place to visit. They even have World War II trenches to you can see.

This base received 20,000 students every year. It is huge. It has many artefacts at various location on the base to visit, mainly tanks, guns and aircrafts, including an outstanding museum that has army, air force and some navy artefacts. At the base entrance, their is a Memorial Wall, unveiled by Prime Minister Trudeau on 6 June 2016. It contain a urn, with soil from Vimy ridge, representing the DNA of the sons and daughters of a grateful nation that have served Canada with honor, duty and courage, and the 2 million soldiers that have trained at Borden from 1916 to 2016. The WW1 training trenches is also worth seeing.

What is there to say about Borden that hasn’t already been said? I’ve spent so much time there over the last year that this has become my home away from home, the place where like Cheers, everyone knows your name. The fabulous Steve tends bar at the Jr Ranks mess, the delightful kitchen staff at Vickers Dining Hall are nothing but friendly faces to brighten your day and the staff at CFLTC are always around to guarantee you a laugh. When I first arrived at Borden fresh out of basic training from St Jean, I thought I had arrived at some kind of Club Med or perhaps I had actually died and gone to heaven. There are many open areas you can play frisbee, rugby or go out for a run - the possibilities are really endless. “Fluffy”, the local fox, will come to your barracks every evening looking for an ear scratch (and maybe a slice of pizza but really, don’t feed the animals). The museum is a lovely treasure trove of history and being located so close to Barrie, Wasaga Beach and Toronto can really make your weekends burst with activity. I look forward to the day I visit this place again. Thanks for the memories, CFB Borden!

Got a chance to go to CFB Borden for the air show. Loved to see many military aircrafts just parked there for you to get "up close and personal"! Love our aging but still good CF18, the very old Sea King, the very rare de Havilland Vampire and the aging Snow Birds...
Gotta give our troops some credit, with those inferior equipment they have (because of all those political reasons and excuses) and they still doing a great job.
The base is huge, they have a mini museum with some very old planes in it... just like a mini version of Hamilton's War Plane Museum.
I found that the air show is better than CNE, the aircrafts were flying much closer! It worth to drive to Borden.
On the side note, to make it more special, it is the 100th Anniversary of Base Borden. And, base Borden was the first army base in Canada. And it also the 72nd Anniversary of D-Day.
Thank you all the men and women who fought and died for us.
100th Anniversary, 100 years of freedom!

I have the same question about staying on base for the September spartan race. Thanks.
Written July 15, 2017
Hey,
Im running a Spartan race on base in September, im wondering if civilians can pay to stay on base, seeing we race first thing in the AM. Npot sure if they allow this, not many other places to stay near so i figured i would ask!
Thanks
