I think the idea about a museum that tells the story of Gernika in the Spanish Civil War is really interesting. The museum also has spaces devoted to that story - in Spanish and Basque...! but most energy is spent on letting people think about what "peace" and "war" is in general. Even though this ofcourse is a good thing... More

We stopped in Gernika on a Sunday so took advantage of free entry to this museum. It was something of an eclectic mix of peace, city history and an account of the bombing in 1937. The latter was my real interest but the other parts added something. The exhibits were naturally enough labelled in Spanish, but we were supplied with... More

Gernika seemed to be a lovely, small town. We wanted to visit the museum as the Picasso painting is so powerful (it's in Madrid). Well, what a wonderful hour or so we had in this small but excellent museum. Rather than focus on the history, destruction and military aspects of the bombing of this town, the museum focuses on peace... More

I spent almost 2 hours in that muzeum and must say it´s really worth of it! You get their materials in English so that you understand all the subtitles. In one room, you experience the day Guernica was under bombing. It makes your flesh creep!

I spent a few hours in Guernika y Lumo of respect for those killed 3000 people. The town is tiny and cute. Here is a secular oak tree under whose branches the kings of Castile, and then kings of Spain, had sworn to preserve the independence of the Basque people. This oak escaped by a miracle. You will find it... More

Had a wish to visit Gernika for a long time- we stopped overnight and had a great time walking around and the visit to the Peace Museum was number one on our list. Only 3€ as senior or 5€ for adult. There was a huge amount of information [sadly only in Spanish and Basque] - we did get English translations... More

The museum tells the story of the terrorbombings of Gernika 26.april 1937. IT does so in a really good way. The meaningless horror of the bombs, but also the way back to life and hope/ struggle that this will never happening again is put to life brilliantly. It was easy to get the local 'bus from Bilbao to Guernika. |Unfortunately therewas a car rally on and the streets were closed. |However, |I got directions to the Tourist Place and the lady said the Museum was closed for lunchtime but she gave me a map and showed where the Park was - I wanted to go there to... This was very though provoking and powerful experience. Thankfully, not having ever lived through war this museum did an excellent job of allowing you to get a feel for the experience. I most appreciated the room where you sit and learn about the story of the bombings of the town. It had lights and visual affects and it even played... More
