A Fantastic Hidden History GEM!
Jul. 2019 • Family
This museum is FANTASTIC! Living in Maine and visiting the Farmington area from time to time, we only just this summer happened upon this amazing museum! The warm welcome we received from Crystal as well as her excitement and knowledge of Lillian Nordica and her life was just amazing! There were so many incredible items to see and such beautiful and rare pieces of this history of Maine that we knew nothing about before our visit. We left so thrilled to have found this museum and we will be back again without a doubt to learn even more about Lillian Nordica!!

I've been wanting to visit the Nordica Museum for some time and it was better than I could imagine. The manager put a lot of work into it and added a lot of newly found items. Lillian Nordica was a markable woman and I'm happy that I got to know more about her contributions to the world. Can't wait to visit it again.

this cute old place tells the story of Lillian Nordica, one of the late 19th century's great opera singers. They have old costumes from her operast hat are fascinating. Oh yes, and she was a Farmington native too!

Well worth a visit!
Aug. 2018 • Couples
Have been vacationing in the Farmington area for years, but had hesitated to visit this museum as I had presumed the overall topic was all about opera. But I am so glad we had a rainy day this summer where my visit to this little gem of a museum turned out to be a highlight of our trip.

I still don't appreciate opera, but learning about Lillian Nordica, who was literally the "Beyonce" or "Lady Gaga" of her day was really interesting. I normally don't like to visit museums where you need to have a verbal tour, but in this case it was definitely necessary to fully appreciate the times and have the items in the museum interpreted.

The coca cola memorabilia shown wouldn't have meant much if you didn't learn that Lillian was one of their first celebrity promoters. She lead a rather fascinating life, and your visit will leave you wondering about what artists of today will remain known or be lost to history.

If you enjoy learning about life in the last century, this museum is well worth your visit!

I went to the University of Maine at Farmington and learned about this palce when we rented the caretakers house for a year. Great exhibits in the Homestead of this tremendous Opera star of the Victorian era, Jewels, costumes, programs, even her car.
Located outside of town on the Holly Road. Curator or guide is very enthusiastic about what she does

recommend calling and making an appointment to tour the museum...there are so many artifacts to see...so many stories to hear about …..fascinating and inspiring how this young woman from a farm in Farmington Maine made it across the ocean 75 times and sang with the likes of Enrico Caruso...performed for kings and queens ...was respected and admired by the world. Go to the museum and feel Lillian Nordica come alive
.
thank you.

Fantastic Learning Experience!
Aug. 2018 • Family
I went to school at U Maine Farmington and during my time there I don't recall any specific information about Lillian Nordica (Norton), other than the Nordica Memorial Auditorium being named in her honor.
Our family visited the Nordica Homestead Museum yesterday and we were astounded to learn so much about a woman who had such an influence on society; one that continues to this day.
As someone who enjoys learning history, particularly Maine history, I was amazed I'd not heard or seen more about Madame Nordica. The museum is a great learning experience both in terms of Lillian Nordica (Norton) the woman, and Madame Nordica, whose voice and opera career took her to the world stage.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Nordica Homestead Museum (full stop).
Prepare to be amazed.

My wife and mother-in-law brought me to this museum. To be honest I had no idea what I was getting into. But, it was pretty interesting to hear the history of Nordica and how she played a role in all kinds of aspects of society. This house has tons of history in it. The curator loves her job and is very enthusiastic.

The tour guide is so excited you can't help but be excited too

We went here last week and loved it. There are so many items to see and the woman who takes care of the museum is so excited about it that you can't help be become excited yourself. She has such wonderful stories to share as she shows you the costumes, jewelry, a fan that was a gift from Queen Victoria, etc.
