This trail is well maintained and so beautiful to walk, run or ride bike on. The walk is on the old railroad track bed and is so beautiful along the Kennebec river running through Gardiner, Farmingdale, Hallowell ad Augusta.

Good scenery and paved trail is excellent. Lots of others on bikes, walking, running and walking dogs. Much better than a run along the street.

I was going to a convention at the Civic Center, and brought my MTB to ride the trail on Saturday before returning to Boston. My one suggestion would be to start at the southern end in Gardiner, unless that means extra driving both ways from Augusta. Since it's a rail trail, there are no steep grades, but you're following a... More

Paved trail reaching from the Hannaford parking lot in Gardiner to downtown Augusta. Perfect for some activity, goes right by the YMCA and through downtown Hallowell where you can sit and enjoy the waterfront. No major safety concerns, a friendly and safe place to walk/run/bike. Bring a friend at dusk or at night.

I "hiked" up the Rail Trail from Gardiner to Hallowell and back the other day. Lovely riverside walk in pristine condition. The Kennebec is one of Maine's most beautiful rivers, and the rail trail takes full advantage of it.

After a long ride this is a great place for a workout. Six miles long and the ability to walk to a number of fine restaurants afterwards. Nice for bikes as well

We walk this many times each year and enjoy the views of the Kennebec as it changes from ice floes to brilliant autumn colors reflected in the water. We usually park at DHHS across from the park or under the bridge in downtown Augusta. The walk is not strenuous at all - only a couple of inclines on the Augusta... More

I walk the trail whenever weather permits. I do wish they would cut more brush along the river as I love looking at the water. Sometimes eagles, ducks, etc.

Its a small to mid size trail running from Augusta to Gardner. It mostly runs away from street however you do have to cross in Hallowell. The trail is approximatly 6 miles each way and you can stop by in Hallowell for lunch if you choose to
