The mountain itself is phenomenal. It took us (39/36) about seven hours up the Hunt trail and down Abol. Spectacular views, friendly people, etc. Getting to and from is a different story. You need a permit to park, which seem very difficult to come by....More

I'm not much of a hiker, and the hike to and from the base of the mountain was really long. Nevertheless, I loved climbing up the Cathedral to the top and crawling down the mountain because I enjoy monkey-like adventures and deciding your own route...More

We did not hike to the top but we hiked all over down below and loved the views, the fall leaves, the ease of some of the hikes, the coolness of the air - everything! It's nice to know this is an area that is...More

My husband and I have done pieces and parts of the Appalachian Trail over the past several years, including the beginning/end in Northern Georgia. We were taking a trip to New England and decided to hike up Mt. Katahdin on the Hunt Trail (AT) to...More

Hiking Katahdin was one of the best experiences of our lives. No matter what trail you hike it will be long and grueling. First time Katahdin hikers here and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. It took us a while because we felt the need to snap...More

We went up Chimney Pond to Cathedral to the summit, then over Knife's Edge and down Helon Taylor. I went with a group of college athletes, all in very good shape, and Cathedral and Knife's Edge are extremely serious "hikes." I say "hikes" because they...More

We hiked the Hunt Trail, a challenging but rewarding 5.2 mile hike to Baxter Peak from Katahdin Stream Campground. The first section of the trail is a steady gain through the trees that includes beautiful views of Katahdin Stream Falls. Over half the hike is...More

The Hunt trail is the last 5.2 mile of the Appalachian trail from Georgia. It’s a good, steep trail going up that I would not recommend going back down. The first mile is actually pretty flat for the first mile, then the steep climb begins...More

Since they turned the White Mountains of New Hampshire into a commercial venture, you need to go north to Baxter if you are looking for a beautiful hiking trail. Beautiful and worth the travel time. For serious hikers.

Many. The Hunt trail goes up past Katahdin Stream Falls, and if you head the opposite direction from K.S. campground you come to "Little Niagra" and "Big Niagra" both of which are impressive.
