I sail up and down Somes Sound frequently. It is an amazing placed carved from granite. With Sargeant Drive to the east, sections of Acadia National Park all around, magnificent summer homes and several working boatyards you get a sense of beauty found in few places. Somes Harbor at its northern tip is a special treat.

This was my first time camping and Somes Sound was such a nice place! The pool was so convenient and some of the time we even had it to ourselves! The campground is also in a great area. Very close to Acadia and a beautiful drive to park loop road and Cadillac mountain. The view from the water near the... More

This is one of our favorite places on Mount Desert Island. We love to go early in the morning and watch the lobster boats going out. And again in the late afternoon, evening and watch the changeing light on the water and the mountains in the distance. It is truly a very special, peaceful place.

We saw this on the side of the road when the Missus and Lil-Boy got restless. Great place to stop and just take it in

Almost a fjord but, more technically a fjard, Somes Sound is great scenic destination and just one of many you'll find in Acadia National Park. Easily viewed from your car, if you're driving through or, for the more ambitious, from high ground after a short hike. In any weather or season, this place has a lot to offer. Road tripper... More

Another Nature beauty on the Desert Island.Certainly worth a trip around the sound, just take the road from Bar Harbor and then the Sargeant Drive and then the road on the western coast of the sound. There're spots to park the car and admire the beauty of the place.

we were vacationing in the national park and wanted to get on the water.. so I hired Rich from The Natural History Center to give us a private kayaking tour of Somes Sound. (there are no other companies that do this- so you would have to call Rich or go with lots of other people and at their pace...) We... More
