Celebrating Maine's Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America's greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex.

We were pleasantly surprised when we visited that museum downtown Rockland. There was a special Marguerite Zorach exhibition that was very well displayed. Moreover, the small church nearby the museum is now a second building dedicated to Andrew Wyeth's art work. Amazing!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There is a large collection of Andrew Wyeth and son's paintings and his watercolors are really amazing! Rotating exhibits of fine art are worth the view, too! Support this local museum!

While the Farnsworth had a special exhibit of Marguerite Zorach's work, which I found to be not all that impressive, the Wyeth exhibit and some of the other permanent works are great. In the main museum there are a lot of Wyeth's early sketches of...More

This is a small museum with changing exhibits and a special focus on Andrew Wyeth. It tells the story through Wyeths's paintings and drawings of his special relationship with Alvaro and Christina Olson.

Did not realize this is Andrew Wyeth country and the museum is so tastefully done with multiple paintings and sketches of Andrew's and his son as well as some other artists. It gave me a good perspective into his art and life.

I originally went because my boyfriend loves Wyeths. I am more of a contemporary lover, but like to see artists from whatever region I am visiting. For me the physicality of museums can be as important as the collections. The Farnsworth feels very comfortable and...More
