The Strand Theater is on main street in the wonderful town of Rockland. Walking in you are transported to what a movie theater must have been like in the 40's. We attended a live telecast of an opera being performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera. How cool is that. We sat in the balcony and had great site lines... More

This is a wonderful old theater on Main Street where we viewed The Wizard of Oz on The Strand's big screen a couple of years ago, and this year-Peyton Place. Several members of the audience had been extras in the 1957 film. Following the showing and brief discussion, present day photos of some key sites in the film were projected,... More

What a wonderful venue run by local people who care about their town. We saw an excellent live performance that you would not normally expect could be booked in a small town such as Rockland. The people who attended the show really showed their support for the performers and the theater management. The theater is located right on the main... More

My family have all been to the theater many times for movies and live performances. We have to drive an hour to get there, which should tell you that we like the place. Nice seats, wine and beer in the balcony at many performances, good popcorn and treats. Its a well renovated period movie theater. Lots to see and do... More

The Strand is a historic, beautifully restored theatre in the heart of downtown Rockland. It is worth a visit even if you don't like the movie being offered that night.

The Strand is where anyone can find a high quality film, a live performance of music, an HD live presentation of the Metropolitan Opera or National Theatre of London or Bolshoi Ballet, visual work of local artists, or an event involving an artistic and educational organization in the midcoast region. It's as congenial an ambiance as one can find anywhere... More

What a terrific theater this is! We were in town for a quick getaway and happened upon a screening of a new Indie film that was attended by both the director and screen writer, who took questions at the end. We also loved the short clip the theater produced imploring people not to talk, text etc. - smart, sassy and... More

Go to the Strand for movies, for lectures and for the Metropolitan Opera in HD. Wonderful things happening at the Strand throughout the year.

The Strand is a must for anyone visiting the Rockland area. The movies are often little known (by big screen standards) but always excellent and thought provoking. Also live shows as well. Even if you can't see a show, try to pop in just to see the restoration of this old theater
