Beautiful Vintage Community Theatre
Dec. 2019 • Couples
This is one of the coolest places I have visited. We have walked many paths and the history of this turn of the century place is just awesome. The show was charming as was the historic structure. I highly recommend.

Rustic venue for theater
Jul. 2019
The lakeside venue for this special theater is charming. Although the building is old, the spunk and energy of the actors makes you want to see more performances here. I would have enjoyed a better sound system to have heard some of the dialogue better. The range of upcoming shows stimulates this theatrical appetite

Classic Maine Summer Theater
Jul. 2018 • Friends
the history of this theater is amazing! You can view the photos of the classic stars who played here. Groucho Marx, Barbara Bel Geddes, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Betty Davis and so on. Now it is more local productions, Comedies, drama and some childrens shows. On beautiful Lake Wessenut. You can have dinner beforehand in the Restaurant

Always Enjoyable
Aug. 2018 • Friends
I live in the area so have the luxury of going to Lakewood frequently. The shows are always amazing. They are also affordable. I have been to several other theaters in the area and find Lakewood to be the most reasonable. Performances are more than worth the cost of admission. I can honestly say I have never seen a performance that I have not enjoyed. If you do not have a large group of people, cabaret seating is a great way to go - includes a dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage. If you decide to sit on the main floor, some folks find the first couple rows a little too close since your seats are actually just a little lower than the floor level of the stage. You are able to see actors just fine but may not be able to see their whole body (you may not be able to see their feet but will see the rest of them just fine). Closer is better, however, if you have any marked difficulty hearing. The building is rather old (it is the oldest running summer theater in the country, I believe 2018 marks its 118th season) and sometimes it can be rather warm. Dress accordingly so you will be comfortable and better enjoy the show. This is the only reason I can't give the theater 5 stars. On the plus side, the playbill is usually sufficient as a 'personal fan'. Although all productions are excellent, they are not all acceptable for children. I would read about the storyline (or call and ask) before I make the decision to attend with children. If you are in the area during the summer, a trip to Lakewood Theatre should definitely be on your 'must do' list.

Rare Historic Experience
Dec. 2017 • Couples
You must experience this historical cultural experience. We regret that we don't make it as often as we would like. The restaurant across the street from the theater is 5 star as well. I believe they are closed for the winter, so call ahead, I could be wrong. Definitely add this activity to your itinerary next summer! Fun, laughs and the beauty of Maine all wrapped into a place that's antique yet esquisite.

Classic Maine theatre - sit in balcony for dessert served in seats!
May 2016 • Couples
One of our favorite summer spots. The restaurant has been hit and miss over the years but we have never come to a play here and not loved it. We always choose to buy reserved seating and purchase a dessert in our seats. All other theater goers have to eat in separate area, and can choose the same decadent desserts-which are brought to you in the balcony at intermission. Same for coffee and drinks! We have come for dates, anniversaries, taken our daughter, and each time we have been very happy! A summer favorite...

Beautiful summer theater, right on the water in historic building
Jul. 2016 • Couples
I have been many times over the years, but this summer went to "Young Frankenstein". It was a funny, adult-themed play, done very well by the troupe! The building is historic, charming, and comfortable thanks to the years of upgrades made to the seats and cooling system. I have not been to the restaurant for 5+ years except for the 2014 season (dessert only). However, the building the restaurant is housed in is also very beautiful, quaint, cozy, and again, right on the water. For certain, I would highly recommend Lakewood for a night out in Central Maine!

Interesting place to eat and attend theater
Jul. 2016 • Friends
The place is historic and quaint. Food in dining room is excellent but slow and waiter was new, so he made a lot of mistakes and dropped a whole tray of food...luckily for us it was for another table. Theater is local talent and amateurish , but fun. Sets are basic. The buildings are worth a trip. Date to late 1800's and early 1900.
