It's a good place for active and fit people or someone who is looking to lose weight or just someone who wants to go out for a nice hike

Great Hike
Aug. 2017
This is a very steep hike, but not too long. The first 1/4 or 1/3 is in the woods and then you reach the rocks. Be careful on the way down on the rocks that you follow the path that you came up, especially taking the turns needed. I hike this trail a few times a year, but I started going down the wrong way once and had to retrace back up! But this is my favorite hike around me.

Moderate hike...great views
Sep. 2016 • Couples
Climbed this many times. Interesting rock formations, and nice 360 views from summit. Young and old can climb this, some steep grades; but trail is well marked. Bring water and set an easy pace.. there is no hurry.. Only negative is all the towers on top of summit. More every year and they detract from atmosphere and view. That's progress.....I guess

Nice hike for beautiful sunsets
Jan. 2017 • Family
Can hike from either the west or east sides. From the west it's more of a trail through the woods and over rock outcroppings. Hard to follow the trail on the way down. East side follows the access road for the tower maintenance vehicles.

The Best Hike in Oxford County.
Jul. 2016 • Family
There are great hikes all over western Maine. I enjoy this hike as it is only a
half mile. The trail starts on a mountain road maintained by Hebron Academy. It is a short hike but as you get around the first bend you start walking over or around rocks that have probably came of the mountain years ago. It pays to pace your self on the trail to the 3 granite ledges. I mean they are total granite. If your in your late seventies as I am, I use poles that I shorten on the way up and lengthen on the way down. I been told by people who belong to the 4000 Ft mountain club that it is a hard trail for the short distance it is. These people have climbed all the 4000 + mountains in Maine
and probably, NH & Vermont. The view is terrific and you can see mountains in NH as in Mt. Washington and several 4000 + . I do this for exercise an to think about my next trip to Boothbay or to possibly hike elsewhere. People pass me all the time, but I am no slouch either. ENJOY ENJOY.

Good Family Hike
Aug. 2016 • Couples
The trailhead is located on the left side of Streaked Mountain Road. Although not marked, it's easy to find because of evidence on the shoulders of many cars having parked there. The trail starts in the woods and starts to climb immediately. In 2016, it is marked with orange blazes. Evidence of older blazes (red, turquoise) are seen on parts of the route to the top. After about 10 - 15 minutes in the woods, you begin the hike up the granite face of the mountain toward the radio towers. It took us, a reasonably fit couple in our 60s, about 30 minutes to reach the radio towers at the summit. There are unobstructed views to the WNW on the way to the summit. From the area around the radio towers, there are expansive views of mountains and farms. The hike is family-friendly to this point. An option then is to retrace your steps to the trailhead. A second option is to continue the hike if you have a map and a compass. We walked across the summit in an ESE direction, looking for a trail that would take us to a slightly lower peak to the west. We found a trail without difficulty and found the views from the second peak to be better than those from the first. From there, we followed a jeep road (across the granite) until it intersected with a trail that is heavily used by ATV's and snowmobiles. These trails meandered from SE to S to SW. The upper part was all across granite ledges which are quite interesting from a geological standpoint. The lower part of the trail was through woods and eventually along a dirt road that passes a protected forest area. We followed the dirt road W until it intersected with the Streaked Mt Road, where we turned N to walk back to the trailhead. This indirect route was about 3.5 miles from the towers to the trailhead and gave us a total distance of about 6 miles. This included some wandering around the summit as we picked all the wild blueberries we could eat. Instead of following the Streaked Mountain Road back to 117 to return to South Paris, we drove in the opposite direction and found that the road intersects with King Hill Road, where there are some spectacular views. There's also a business in the road that sells blueberries, so if you haven't had your fill, you have a chance to get more.

Four seasons hiking
Jun. 2016
Short but strenuous hike that rewards you with amazing views. I do not recommend with small children or on a rainy or snowy/icy day. I love it best in August for the wild blueberries and the breezes, and the beginning of October for the colors. We always head up on the Hebron side wich is steep but short

Quick hike, great view
Dec. 2015 • Couples
This is a great little mountain with fabulous views. For beginners or people that don't hike a lot this is a great mountain to start with. The short trail is an easy climb in all four seasons with a very rewarding view. Great for all ages.
