Well worth the time to find this hidden gem. The museum, the park, the lighthouse, bring a kite, bring a lunch, spend some quality time enjoying all this little hidden corner in South Portland has to offer. Sit and watch the ocean, cruise ships passing, sailboats sailing, and take a step back in time, go through this wonderful museum with... More

The staff is always friendly and helpful. So many beautiful pictures and exhibits of South Portland through the years. Buglight Park borders the museum as well as the Public boat ramp, great place for the 4th of July, watching the fireworks acrosse Casco Bay!

This is a wonderful little museum. It has a nice amount of information about South Portland. I was there looking for information about the Liberty ships that were built in that area.

This fascinating museum is located perfectly - the exhibits and the setting itself working in concert to re-present the rich history of ship building, shipping, and City of South Portland. Just a few hundred yards from an outdoor display of the building of Liberty Ships during World War II, the museum has a permanent display telling the story of these... More

A visit to Bug Light Park takes in a great view of Portland Harbor, South Portland Bug Lighthouse and the Liberty Ship Memorial and the best little South Portland Historical Society Museum. It is a place where one can visit alone or with family and friends. This museum is smack in the middle of what use to be a WWII... More

South Portland is a terrific city - often missed by visitors on the other side of the harbor. But if you're looking for lighthouses and local color don't miss this. The historic building isn't large but the permanent exhibits give a fine overview, and the rotating exhibits are always intriguing. A nice little gift shop and friendly volunteers are a... More

If you are visiting Bug Light, you should also check out this and the Liberty Ship Memorial. And if you are a history buff, this is almost a must see. Lots of information on the Liberty Ships that were built in this area during WWII. Lots of other history about South Portland. Museum staff were terrific, very friendly, and love... More
