Worth seeing. Free

Cathance River area, including Head of Tide Park, is a hidden natural gem. Different ecosystems. Peaceful.
Wear good walking shoes. Bring insect and tick repellent spring, summer and fall. Worth seeing. Many non mountainous trails to hike.

I was impressed

I actually wonder why more is not said about this preserve. The trail is very beautiful especially along the river where there are some nice falls. We saw many deer and ducks. The only negative I can say is that real estate developers are building lots of houses close to the park. In fact if you go there now it is easy to get lost because the beginning of the trail is all bull dozed up. My recommendation is that after you park in the hikers parking lot be sure to remember your entry route so you can find your way back out to the lot. It is kind of tricky with everything plowed up there.

Hidden gem!

A quiet, little known conservation preserve with lovely trails, several point of acres to the Cathance River. The Education Center does a fantastic job of introducing school children to the nature that is in their back-yards

Great trails

Truly lovely trails that meander to and along the river. Beautiful tannin dark water in the river with several rapids that make the hike very picturesque and hopeful for wildlife viewing.

Quiet with natural trails winding along the river or a bog or a pond.

Shorter marked trails visit different parts of the Cathance River and a pond and a bog. The differences of habitat are great to see. The river can be very low or running fast in early spring.

Bird and animal watching are definite highlights. If you are lucky the Cathance River Education center will be open and you can drop in and look up what you saw and learn even more.

I get lost every time I come here

This is a nice spot, and beautiful trails, but somehow I manage to get lost every time I go hike there. But I keep going back and trying again!

Great hike anytime, summer is best. Can be tricky if kids are not experienced hikers. Plenty of spots to rest.
