This place is super popular with locals and offers great views no matter which side you are on. During the weekends lots of people bring their kids and dogs to go for scenic hikes. Some people even fish or play in the water. I typically hike Big Gunpowder Falls in the central area of the park off Belair Rd. I... More

We hiked The Little Gunpowder Trail with pretty little waterfalls and a gentle little stream that wound its way along the peaceful trail! There's a big boulder area with lots to climb and leap over for the more adventurous one in your group, like my husband! Even on an early Spring day this little trail packs a lot of scenic... More

We have hiked many of the trails in Gunpowder Falls State Park as we live quite close. Most are well maintained and blazed (marked). The park is a great place to enjoy nature individually, with couples or families with children.

My wife and I decided to take our dogs out for the day (on leash). It was great! This time of year is a bit of the offseason so we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Sprawling park land, a walk along the beach and a beautiful view... that's all we asked for and that's exactly what... More

The park is always clean and we seem to luck up, finding a table each time we go. There are plenty of public grills, although on busy days, they will become scarce by noon. If walking trails are of your interest, some of these offer a serene way to get away from the busy water area. There are a few... More

We took the blue trail from the parking area and followed it along the creek for a little over a mile. The creek is wide and clear, studded with boulders. It is a peaceful, scenic hike with low difficulty. About a mile out you hit a crossing stream and can either turn back on the blue trail or continue on... More

We were looking to get outside for a hike with the dogs and this location fit our needs. It was Thanksgiving weekend so a little busy but still a very pleasant visit. Trails were well marked and the historic town of Jerusalem was interesting to walk around. A nice escape from hours of traveling.

Went because gunpowder falls was listed as the sixth must see waterfall in Maryland to be told by the guy in the office that there isn't really a waterfall it is just where to rivers meet but they have a really nice recently renovated covered bridge.. it was nice , but that's not what we went to see.

We spent the afternoon at the Hammerman section of the state park, which includes quite a number of picnic pavillions and a wonderful section of beach along the river. I would highly recommend this puting.

A beautiful, serene setting deep in the forest of Gun Powder State Park. Kilagore Falls offers a great swimming hole for all ages. Younger ones can explore and wade on the rocks and the older kids are jumping off the rocks into the deeper areas. You can swim right up to the falls and stand in or right behind it.... More
