I attended a wedding at Sotterley recently and it was a very nice rustic setting for an informal, fun wedding reception. One downside: There was no recycling. We grabbed a trash bag and collected the bottles and cans ourselves during clean-up and took them back...More

I have lived in Md for over 10 years. However, in that time I drove by Sotterly a hundred times and never took a left into the plantation. Now, I have taken the turn into history, a plantation with a beautiful house and gardens. It...More

Historic Sotterly Plantation, established in the 1700's. Beautiful grounds but with a heavy, dark and sad slavery history. "History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again". Maya Angelou

The plantation house itself is not large, but quite interesting, with the oldest portion going back to 1703. The highlight is some amazing decorative woodwork and a Chinese Chippendale railing from a 1770s renovation. The tour was very informative and covered the history well. The...More

No tour available but we just followed the map and found our way around. The mansion was closed but the grounds were still great to walk around and check out. Not too busy; the only people were volunteers working in the garden.

A wonderful plantation setting in Maryland with beautiful surroundings. Go in late October for the "Ghosts of Sotterley" tour.
