When they open up the mill, to grind the corn, head over and sample their homemade cornbread and score a bag of freshly ground cornmeal. This spot is beautiful to watch the herring run and learn about this amazing aspect of nature.

We visited Stony Brook on a Saturday (only time when the mill is working) and were treated to fresh corn bread made with local cornmeal! It was impossible to resist buying some cornmeal (ground fresh) for ourselves and as gifts. Our 9-year-old loved the little...More

It was cool to walk around and see the actual streams and pond area. The only drawbacks were missing the herring run and the actual mill being open on Saturdays only

Took two toddlers here to walk the nice paths. The paths are not long but it was a nice outing and the place is very well maintained.

Try to visit this place at least once a year. Today found the Mill open and bought some cornmeal ground here. Love the outdoor experience and historical information. So fun to see and hear children's reactions to the herring jumping upstream.

We happened upon this gem a few years ago and were able to see the herring run. The gulls plucked many of them out of the stream but we saw a few make it safely up to the pond. It was a little too cold...More

The Grist Mill is nice in any season, but probably the most interesting time to see the grounds is when the herring run during springtime. A family member insisted I take them to get a look, I dragged my feet but agreed. Wow, so glad...More
