Amazing historic home, only wish we had visited on a day when the home was open to the public. While visiting in the off season has it's perks, it can make getting to attractions when they are open challenging. We walked around the house and on the surrounding trails. I would definitely recommend visiting when it's open!

Walked through open house after hiking fort hill trails. Worth the wait for open house! Restoration has gone well! Rangers are super nice and able t answer questions. Truly spectacular architecture. So glad we got in!

The whalebone entrance to the home is worth the visit alone! The house also has neat architecture, but check to see when it is open for visiting. There apparently is no furniture inside, but there are photos in the downstairs rooms so tours should be available at some point.

It was very interesting! I loved the story. They were painting the outside and it was beautiful. You could imagine the captain coming home from sea.....

We found this place by accident when we had some time to kill before getting into our rental property. Some really nice trails with beautiful views. Make sure to get a picture underneath the whale jaw bones!

They just restored the exterior of the Captain Penniman House and it looks terrific. What a contrast to the Carriage House that has not yet been restored. Visit here to learn about what life was like for Captain of a whaling ship, and his family, who would sometimes accompany Captain Penniman on his trips. Be sure to check out the... More

Hopefully you will be able to see this museum once they finish their renovations. From the outside it looks like it would be fun to visit. I was able to enter the grounds ( through a whales jaw bone) but did not enter the house.
