Jump the waves or ride the great surf on the Atlantic Ocean side of this three-mile barrier beach, or enjoy a more relaxed pace on the tranquil Katama Bay side, a protected salt pond with lovely views of the bay. Katama is the largest public beach on the island.

The sandy beach is well maintained and patrolled. There are lifeguard stations at reasonable distances from one another such that the coverage is good. The view is unobstructed. It's fun to watch the low flying planes and glider above.

This is just a beautiful and pristine beach - good for walking and sunning. The swimming is good but there is a strong undertow, so watch the kids. State beach might be safer. There are lifeguards and facilities. Large parking lot, but get there early...More

It was a treat to visit Katama Beach in May. I enjoy this summer stop off, but really enjoyed the tranquility of the off season.

THis is easy to access by car or bicycle. It is a lovely spot for a walk or to read a book. THe Atlantic can be very refreshing too. Treat the beach with respect please!

A sharp drop off into the surf means there's little beach dune to water line. Crowded, bit the beach is beautiful. Need to watch little kids near the water.
