Great place to stay and visit Gloucester

We stayed in a converted sail loft in Rocky Neck when we visited Gloucester. It is a beautiful area with low traffic and great views out over the harbor.

There are some very nice victorian houses. The streets are full of painters and galleries. The galleries are a bit dirty and full of kaos around but in spite of it it's interesting... There are some factories so the port and view are not so nice!

Lots of very interesting small galleries exhibiting everything from funky to classic fine art (and prices to match.) We enjoyed chatting with the artists and seeing Gloucester through their work. Worth an afternoon.

Rocky Neck is home to one of the oldest art colonies in the USA. In many of the galleries the artists live where they work so you can see them creating pieces as well as have in depth conversations about those that are displayed. The Studio and the Rudder restaurants serve up great seafood and drinks and the outdoor dining... More

I think this is a very trendy and touristy area but worth the walk to see the art galleries and little shops. It feels like the street is closed off to traffic but really cars can go down the road as they need and people will move for them. But auto traffic is rare. The shops are eclectic and the... More

We enjoy catching the inner harbor water taxi which stops at The Studio restaurant in Rocky Neck. Grab some food, walk thru the private galleries and if you have interest it is where several of the tuna boats from the show Wicked Tuna are moored.

I found this area overrated and hardly any parking. Not worth cruising around and around looking for a parking place.

So New England...quirky shops, solid art galleries and cultural center with diverse and frequent event s and changing exhibits. Unique harbor views and architecture. Friendly locals.

There are artist's studios right on the pier. The quality of the work varies. Some are established artists and some are following their dream of being artists. There is a lovely neighborhood there; many people put a lot of care into their houses and gardens and it is fun to look around. There are all different sorts of views, from... More
