I’m usually up in late August and have visited Inkwell Beach several times and it is rocky and the water can be cool...boarding on cold. However, it is great for sunning, siteseeing and relaxing with a little a history.

I got in the Inkwell Beach and the view was spectacular. This beach was minutes from my hotel and it was a convenient short walk every morning. I took the dip!

Such a calm, family friendly beach! There's a lot of history to be learned for us African-American travelers about the Inkwell and the Polar Bear club is a great group of fun swimmers!

This visit on MV we stayed in East Chop. Thus I walked to Inkwell each morning for my walk. We also walked the beach one evening looking for shells. We did not swim due to the temperatures but we do enjoy the Inkwell area.

Inkwell beach is not far from the center of Oak Bluffs and the ferry station. We like to walk it early in the morning and collect shell, glass, etc. Much calmer than South Beach and the parking is easy as there are places to park...More

The Inkwell in Oak Bluffs is definitely a must do if you travel to Martha's Vineyard. The water was so calm, I stayed in it with friends for over 2 hours just talking and laughing.

Yes. It is not as busy as July and August. The traffic is not a much of an issue, beaches less crowded and easier to get into restaurants.

No requirements for the beaches on Marthas Vineyard. All are free and open to the public. But note that there is no bridge to the island. You can't drive there. If you wanted your car, you would need to bring it with you... More
