The Milang Jetty is an easy and safe walk out to the end, while at the end look at the hand operated crane from the 1800's

Historically Important Jetty now a Good Recreational Site
Sep. 2020
Milang nestles on the banks of Lake Alexandrina and has an important place in the history of the River Murray. The jetty was integral to this history.

Nowadays, the jetty is mainly used for fishing and is of wooden construction with a slightly uneven wood plank surface. It still has the 1859 erected hand crane which was used to load the boats which plied Lake Alexandrina's waters then to make their way up the Murray River with goods and supplies.

The area adjacent to the jetty has been developed as a community and visitor resource. The lawned area has a BBQ area, seating and toilets with a large car park next to the park. This park also serves the boat ramps.

Dominating the park is the large white sculpture “Run Like the Wind” which is a part of the South Australian “Hills Sculpture Trail”. The park also commemorates the journey of discovery by Captain Charles Sturt who passed this area in February 1830.

We enjoyed our mid-afternoon walk of discovery of the Milang Jetty and adjacent lawned park on a beautiful sunny day.

Return? If heading to the area, it is a distinct possibility even with fishing rod in tow!
