Considered to house one of the best art collections in the United States, the Institute showcases everything from mummies to modern art and African masks to Monets in its outstanding collection of over 65,000 works. Don't miss the General Motors Center for African American Art, a part of the DIA which showcases 400 pieces, in various media, by African American artists.

The DIA is a world-class collection of historical art/artifacts/history. There is magic there if you stop and quiet yourself.

Van Gogh self portrait many world famous paintings. Safe across from Wayne State they had an offbeat show on Friday afternoon.

Quite an impressive and wide-ranging collection. The space itself is like a tiered wedding cake of art and artifacts, and a wonderful destination spot. For a dollar and change, we hopped the Q tram near the stadium and it dropped us at the front steps.

The Inn on Ferry Street is a bed and breakfast one block from the DIA. Other than that, you will have to stay 2-3 miles away, either at the St.Regis on West Grand Blvd. or in one of the hotels downtown. The MotorCity... More
