The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is a fully automated light rail system that operates on an elevated single-track loop in Detroit's central business district. Launched in 1987, the system’s 13 stations provide quick connections between the courts and administrative offices of several levels of government, sports arenas, exhibition centers, major hotels, and commercial, banking and retail districts. Service is frequent and unencumbered by vehicle or pedestrian traffic, and at just 75 cents per ride, it’s the best bargain in town!

Take the loop

We took the loop to get the lie of the land and it gave us a bird's eye view of the city. Just 75c. Worth doing.

Excellent way to get to all the attractions in and around Detroit. Cheaper than a cab and all you friends can go too. Safe and quick travel.

Fun way to see Detroit! We take a ride in the sky each time we visit. Good way to see the changes as the city is going through its revival.

the people mover cost more than a $100M to build 30 years ago and loses over $10M per year. Only approximately 13% of the cost is covered by riders - so the taxpayers are stuck paying for this albatross. It breaks down frequently and the stations routinely close. In 30 years the system has costed $400M - and that isn't... More

We always park in Bricktown in the structure directly across from the People Mover's Bricktown station. Usually $10 to park, which is awesome for the area. We've taken the People Mover several times to the Joe, Ford Field, The Fox, etc. It always a good option for eating in Greektown then commuting over to see the game or a concert.... More

This is the best way to get around downtown Detroit. Train shows up about every 3 minutes so it is very efficient and reliable. Did notice that they monitor very well from cameras for any kind of trouble, so felt very safe. If a person stepped too closely, a voice sounded from speakers.
