This is about a half mile hike each way, the hill gets steep for part of it, and most people can make it without too much difficulty. If you are wheezing, relax and stop to enjoy the woods before going on. We have done it...More

We left Glen Arbor for Leland and stumbled onto this spectaular place. As we weren't prepared for a hike, almost didn't make the journey to the summit. We enjoyed the drive to the parking spot for the walk, almost as much as we did the...More

We came here to take some cool photos and take a hike. The sand dune is definitely no for your average joe. The slope is extremely steep and long. The bottoms is definitely rewarding though!

For the most part, this is an easy hike. The only difficult part is walking through the sand of the dunes. Along the hike we saw beautiful wildflowers and an assortment of birds including a bluebird, cedar waxwing and others. We hiked about .5 miles...More

We are hikers as a family but if you are not, you should still "man-up" and do this half mile hike up the hill. IT IS WORTH IT! The views from this vantage point are incredibly impressive. The hike is mostly shaded so at least...More

A moderate hike uphill to a wonderful view. The trail-side is carpeted with trillium and many other flowers.

Once you find this trail make sure you take water because it's uphill both ways and in soft sand. We enjoyed it and did the little side dune for extra punishment. You finish by walking up then down a long but not-as-steep hill of dirt/gravel...More

Short 1/2 mile walk to the point where amazing views of Lake Michigan await! It was a beautiful clear, warm, sunny day for us and the water and sky were perfect blue. Both islands (north and south manitou) were visible and we immediately started planning...More

This trail takes you to the northernmost point of the park land. It's a bit of a drive from the more-frequently traveled trails in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Forest, but worth the time and effort--especially if you'd rather avoid crowds. We try to hit...More

Not sure about dogs, but would assume, if they are on a leash would be OK. I can't imagine why they wouldn't be.

You can apply for a back country hiking permit that allows you to hike and camp off the trails in the park. You can have a campfire on Good Harbor beach which is at the north end of the park . This is a popular thing to do... More

No vehicles are allowed. For those who cannot hike, there are some beautiful overlooks on the Pierce Stocking Drive, which is near the town of Glen Arbor.
