Wow. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and you’ve got to try it. Steven and Lenny are great and they helped me to do something I’ve never done but always wanted to. It’s not cheap but it’s something I’ll never forget.

My husband loved getting to forge his own horseshoe knife! The staff was very kind & explained things well. I loved that I could make a reservation ahead of time to be sure we were able to get in. Very unique experience!

My 11 year old daughter and I were a little nervous about what this would be like, but it ended up being really fun!! Thank you to Matt for guiding us and helping us hammer. We love the knife and dagger we made!! This is an experience we will always remember and have a very special souvenir from. Just make sure you figure out any extras you want before you start forging and the blacksmith you’re working w knows!! We didn’t realize we needed to tell Matt about a symbol we wanted ahead of time.

We arrived at 2:15, they said they had 2 appointments open for 3:00 so we paid for them and went shopping for 40 minutes. When we arrived back at 2:55 we could see that there were 2 blacksmiths working and they did not look close to finishing. We asked about the wait and were told it would not be long, this answer was given without checking with the blacksmith currently working. After 20 minutes one party left and one blacksmith was left and again did not look close to finishing. There were others waiting and blacksmiths around presumably for the next group. No one ever spoke to any one waiting. Not about what the experience would entail or how much longer the wait would be. After 35 minutes of waiting we asked to cancel our appointment and get a refund. We were told that only a manager could do that and they would have to call and ask permission. So MORE waiting!!!!!!
We did eventually get our money back.
If customers have to wait, maybe those hanging around should give a verbal presentation about what is about to happen. Those working the front desk should be more proactive and try to keep customers informed as to the real amount of time they can expect to wait. Frankenmuth is a wonderful little town, if told the truth about the wait we would have been happy to wander and shop.

A cool built-it-myself experience and souvenir from my trip to Frankenmuth! Had a lot of fun and even got the wife to do some Blacksmithing!

This experience was Awesome!!
My two kids, 14 & 12, spent the morning forging a knife out of a railway spike! It was so cool for them to learn about blacksmiths and get to do all the steps to create their own knife!
Matt was our blacksmith and he was fantastic with them, explaining everything as they went, the process and why it’s done that way, and helping them each with the parts that were difficult for them. There’s a large assortment of things you can make and degrees of the amount of work you do and my two are already making a list of which they’ll do the next time we get to pass that way (we came from Ontario, but will definitely make a trip back as we love this town!)
I totally recommend this experience! Worth the time and money!!

I give it one star because at least the people were friendly. I paid for the $30 Candy Cane 15 minute experience on Friday, June 30. Unfortunately, they booked 7 people in this group, including some people getting more extensive/longer materials to produce.
After 1 hour and 15 minutes, sweltering in the heat and patiently waiting my turn, I had enough and asked the nice gentleman to finish it for me. The process goes from customer to customer, tap tap tap tap on the iron, product back in the fire, blacksmith talks a while, and then the next customer comes up, tap tap tap tap, chatter, next customer comes up. As it turned out, I wasn’t the only one who left early and had them finish it.
When I was done, and picked it up 20 minutes later, I found they forgot to put a hole in the end, which I asked them to do. 10 minutes later they put the hole in. When I inspected it, I realized the whole candy cane was actually bent and not even close to straight! Can’t believe they even looked at it when they thought it was finished. I had to come back another 20-30 minutes later because they had to re-heat it and to bend it back.
I wouldn’t do this again, UNLESS they have no more than 4 people in the group and if they add some fans outside to keep their customers comfortable.

I surprised my husband with an experience and he will never forget it.
He was able to meet the owner and talk with him. At the time he didn’t realize that the owner is a Forged in Fire champion.
He had the opportunity to work his knife himself.
He will be back for an open forge the next time we are in town.
