My husband is a huge Forged In Fire fan and has always wanted to try making a knife. I was a little hesitant to join him because I didn’t know if I was strong enough to swing the hammers but I needn’t have worried. I chose to make a candy cane ornament and it was no problem at all. The rail spike knife might have been a challenge for me but they will finish it for you if you can’t do it.

There is a coupon in the coupon book, and if you’re making a knife be sure to pick up the Bavarian Blacksmith brochure at the visitors’ center because it has a coupon for a free pommel design on a knife.

We had such a great time! It was a perfect counterpoint to all of the shopping he endured and a really cool experience for both of us. Ben was really knowledgeable and friendly, and he kept things moving right along, taking turns with one of us hammering while the other’s piece reheated. I chose to wear one of their leather aprons to protect my clothing but it probably wasn’t necessary.

We ended up with a neat Christmas decoration and unique knife, but more importantly an activity that we enjoyed together and a great story to tell. Our adult kids were impressed, and that is a feat. If you’ve ever watched Forged in Fire and thought “I could do that” you owe it to yourself to give it a try. You can, but it’s not as easy as they make it look!

I came in here with my boyfriend whom wanted to make a small knife. There was no one in here but us and at least 3 blacksmiths. They wouldn't budge on the high price whatsoever. So we won't be back. They've made Frankenmuth into one big Tourist trap.

I took my 2 grandsons and had a great experience from the time that I called to book until they were finished with their product. Lenny was awesome with the boys and they cannot wait to do it again.

This is an awesome experience! We came with our grandchildren (ages 8 and 12) today. All 4 made a horseshoe knife. Sam was great, giving clear, easy to understand instructions. Our knives when through a handful of steps. When they were forged, they were sent to the grinding shed where they were cleaned up, sharpened and put into sheaths. We picked them up about an hour after our final step was done, and we are sooo happy with them! We will always remember the experience as being one of the best things we’ve done! I wholeheartedly recommend it and would do it again!

I went to this blacksmith shop this week and spoke to one of the blacksmiths about him making a triangle dinner bell for my step dad for Father’s Day. They told me that it shouldn’t be a problem to have it ready for Father’s Day. I was told they could let me know when it was ready so I could pick it up. I just called ( the day before Father’s Day) to check the status of my order as I had not heard anything from them. I was told they have been too busy and it has not even been started. Now I am left with no gift for my step dad as these dinner bells are something you can not find just anywhere. This is the whole reason I was so happy to be giving him a custom made item. Unfortunately now I will empty handed on Father’s Day. Very very very disappointed. I will not be back to this establishment if my $100 means nothing to them.

Wow. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and you’ve got to try it. Steven and Lenny are great and they helped me to do something I’ve never done but always wanted to. It’s not cheap but it’s something I’ll never forget.

My husband loved getting to forge his own horseshoe knife! The staff was very kind & explained things well. I loved that I could make a reservation ahead of time to be sure we were able to get in. Very unique experience!

My 11 year old daughter and I were a little nervous about what this would be like, but it ended up being really fun!! Thank you to Matt for guiding us and helping us hammer. We love the knife and dagger we made!! This is an experience we will always remember and have a very special souvenir from. Just make sure you figure out any extras you want before you start forging and the blacksmith you’re working w knows!! We didn’t realize we needed to tell Matt about a symbol we wanted ahead of time.

We arrived at 2:15, they said they had 2 appointments open for 3:00 so we paid for them and went shopping for 40 minutes. When we arrived back at 2:55 we could see that there were 2 blacksmiths working and they did not look close to finishing. We asked about the wait and were told it would not be long, this answer was given without checking with the blacksmith currently working. After 20 minutes one party left and one blacksmith was left and again did not look close to finishing. There were others waiting and blacksmiths around presumably for the next group. No one ever spoke to any one waiting. Not about what the experience would entail or how much longer the wait would be. After 35 minutes of waiting we asked to cancel our appointment and get a refund. We were told that only a manager could do that and they would have to call and ask permission. So MORE waiting!!!!!!
We did eventually get our money back.
If customers have to wait, maybe those hanging around should give a verbal presentation about what is about to happen. Those working the front desk should be more proactive and try to keep customers informed as to the real amount of time they can expect to wait. Frankenmuth is a wonderful little town, if told the truth about the wait we would have been happy to wander and shop.

A cool built-it-myself experience and souvenir from my trip to Frankenmuth! Had a lot of fun and even got the wife to do some Blacksmithing!
