I recently did research for a few days in the Local History collection in the GRPL. The staff on the 4th floor were extremely helpful in answering any questions I had. I am an experienced researcher so mostly needed to know how to work the equipment and find resources. Thanks to all of them!
Also loved the historic building!

We brought our great nephews here for the Magician show. It was an amazing, fun show for us all. He was awesome with all the kids, involving many and wowing everyone else. The fact that this was a free event made it even more amazing. They even offered free juice and snacks for the kids. After the show we went to the children’s section. The librarian there was so wonderful with the boys. He answered ALL their questions and even helped us adults locate a lunch location nearby. The book selection is amazing. We had a hard time getting the boys to leave. Thanks for making the library such a fun place for everyone!

I live in Grand Rapids. I grew up here. 60 years ago, I started visiting the library with my sister. Now, I take out-of-town visitors there, and they are always amazed. This week I took some Hollywood film folk around town, dropped them off in front of the library, and told them I'd pick them up in 15 minutes. They came out rather overwhelmed of the sheer beauty and charm of the place, as well as the collection.

Grand Rapids has reason to be proud of their museum. For a "town" its size, the museum is truly a magnificent adventure of learning that young and old will enjoy and remember. It has featured items at times while always having a host of historical information for those wishing to know about their surroundings.

Traveling with kids or solo, libraries offer the perfect opportunity to get out of the car, access dependable internet, charge your batteries, use a clean restroom, and even stretch out with a good book for a bit! And for FREE! The Grand Rapids Public Library is located less than a mile off either US-131 (en route to Sleeping Bear Dunes) or I-196 (en route to Lake Michigan), 2 miles from I-96. This library has very well developed sections for children, teens, adults, each with sections dedicated to graphic novels, which our family can burn hours consuming. There's lots of comfortable seating to sprawl out on, clean restrooms, and computers available, if you don't have your own laptop. Windows overlook the Grand Rapids downtown. And if your kids need more action, it's within eyesight of the Children's Museum and a short walk around the corner from an amazing coffee shop.

We love this big old library. It has loads of history and the librarians are always very helpful. The building is beautiful and worth the trip all by itself.

It had been years since I had been to the downtown library and was I ever pleasantly surprised - parking was great (and free - get a voucher from the library for the adjacent lot), the building itself has so much character, the employees were helpful and I never made it past all the book suggestions - left with several books!

This library really is attractive, comfortable, and well-stocked. And they are doing a good job with programming and keeping current with changing technology. We often check out e-books.

Hi, can I borrow books even though I don’t permanently live in Grand Rapids, but am a visiting scholar with a J-1 Visa?
