Such a wonderful view of Victoria and surrounding cities! This was a nice short hike up to see amazing views. You can drive up too, if you want to limit your hiking. Be careful when hiking it's easy to get mixed up with all the trails. We used AllTrail app, but I didn't pay attention, and had to get a local person to help us find the summit trail.

This Park emphasises "Natural Beauty at its finest!! There are many trails for hiking/trekking.. or one can drive up the 225 metre/850 foot hill [there is a parking lot at the top]. The trekking is "more complex" the higher one goes... but the "panoramic views" vary-- but all are very memorable/spectacular! I preferred the longer trails in the lower areas of the Park (where there are also many picnic tables as well as a playground for children). The vegetation highlights the older trees as well as the shoreline. There is also a mine, which reminds one of the "recent past's" economic activities.. and the more "historic past" when it was the home to Canada's "aboriginals!. TripAdvisor has awarded the Park its "Certificate of Excellence". It is definitely worthy of a visit.

When we have visitors from out of town, this is one of the places we always take them, especially on a nice clear day. You get a 360 degree view from the summit. In addition to seeing the City of Victoria laid out in front of you to the south, on a good day you can see the Olympic Mountains and Mount Baker (117 Km away!) in the U.S. To the north is the Saanich Peninsula and Saltspring Island.
You can drive to a parking lot near the summit after the gate at the bottom opens at noon. Prior to that, you can hike up to the top (about 20 - 25 Minutes). We often do that prior to noon, as you don't have to watch for vehicles on the road at that time.
The Park also includes a waterfront section on the other side of Mount Douglas Parkway, which has a nice pebble beach. There are also many hiking trails throughout the park if you are interested in enjoying nature.

We drove up, but It would definitely be worth the climb for these amazing 360 views of the island and ocean. One of the best 360 views I've ever seen

Free parking but not a lot of it.
Great place to go to get fantastic views of Southern Vancouver Island. You can often get a great view of North Vancouver from the top of Mt. Douglas.
Bring binoculars if you really want to check things out.
Take care of the drive up and down the hill as some parts of the road can be narrow - several blind corners so take your time and do not cut corners.
Lots of people park at the bottom and walk/hike up the road. A good workout but also means there can be a number of people on the road with the cars. Take your time and watch for wildlife - and the hikers of course :) The walk/hike up is NOT good for the very young or out of shape.

Mount Douglas (originally named Pkols by the First People) is an enchanting place. Emily Carr captured its beauty with brush and canvas. Most people come for the views from the peak but if you are able to hike some of the trails (or the 1.5 km road which is closed to motorized vehicles until noon) you'll enjoy the forest on the way. The most spectacular time is spring when masses of fawn lilies are blooming. Some people have said they find the trail map and signage confusing. You can download the Mt. Doug GPS Enabled Trail Map onto your smart phone for free through the Mount Douglas Park Society website (mountdouglaspark.ca) There are a few parking lots for trail access and if you want to get there by bus from downtown catch the bus # 28 and get off at Majestic Drive and Ash Rd. and you'll be very close to the beach access and not far from the Churchill Drive access via a trail. Plan to spend a few hours. There are bathrooms near the beach and porta-potties at the Churchill Drive entrance and the top parking lot.

this is a great place to go for all levels of hiking to trail walking, even driving to get to the spectacular 360 views from the top! There are multiple parking lots and the trails are mostly very clearly marked by name and difficulty level, from green to black diamond. If you are in decent shape its easily doable to go up to little mount Doug and then the bigger peak and back down in just over an hour. You can also go up, down and around the mountain, picnic, watch sunset and sunrises....

Many trails to walk. Pets welcome. The main and only road in park is closed to traffic until 11 AM each morning to accommodate the walkers and bikers who use in to climb to the summit.. It is about a mile to the top where good views of the area are your reward. Parking is available at entrance off Shelburn as well as various areas around park.

Mount Douglas Park has so much to offer! There is easy parking, free admittance and hikes for all levels. Flat hikes, and a full mountain hike. you can hike to the top for a view or drive to the top. If you only do one nature-like attraction in Victoria, this should be it!

How long does it take to climb from the Mount Douglas Summit Parking lot (near the top), up to the Lookout and how hard a climb is it? I'm 68 yrs. old. - Barb
Written August 20, 2019
It's at least 1.2 k from the bottom parking lot to the top. 3 different roots to walk.
From the summit parking lot it's only 2 minutes to the "Southern lookout". The "Northern lookout" where the communication towers are is about 5-10 minutes.
Written August 29, 2019
It's 1.5 km on the road, so 40 minutes is a generous estimate for going up. I do it in 40 minutes up and down and I'm not particularly fast.
