Windmill Island Gardens is home to de Zwaan windmill, the last mill allowed to be transported from the Netherlands. de Zwaan still functions by grinding locally-grown grain into flour that is sold to visitors and local businesses. A highlight of visiting is a tour of this historic working windmill. Visitors can enjoy music from our antique Dutch street organ given to the City of Holland by the City of Amsterdam after World War II. Children can also ride on our antique carousel from the Netherlands. There are several other replica Dutch buildings and shops. The Island is home to beautiful gardens which feature tulips in the spring followed by beautiful annuals and perennials throughout the summer. Please note that the Island is open seasonally, April 15 - October 1, 2017. Last tickets sold at 5 pm.

The grounds and flowers were beautiful - even in mid-August. The tour of the windmill was the best part. Would have been nice to see the organ being played or the carousel running. We were one only a few families that Wednesday afternoon. The gift...More

We didn't get out and walk around but could see most of the gardens from the parking lot. I got out and took a picture of the windmill from the lookout point. Everything is well maintained.

As locals, this is one of our favorite places to walk and enjoy the flowers and scenery! When friends come to visit this is our #1 Dutch tourist site to take them to for local history. The tour of the windmill is not to be...More

This is a most interesting and lovely place to visit. One can only imagine what it looks like during the annual tulip festival. The town is well maintained and appears to be thriving with lots of community spirit!

I found the price for the hour we spent here to be a little high (close to $30 for two adults, two kids). However, it was neat to get a tour of the windmill inside! Gardens were beautiful, and my kiddos enjoyed the old fashioned...More

We came here in the winter and it was pretty deserted. Still, it was beautiful. All the shops were closed but I imagine it's a great place to visit in the summer and the windmill was beautiful with all the snow around it. I hope...More

Glad we stopped and took the tour of the windmill. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the working of the windmill. Went up each level and explained the process of grinding the grain into flour. Had the opportunity to buy a bag of the wheat...More

Windmill was interesting, flowers beautiful, but not much else to see here. Expensive for what you get. We walked around for a couple of hours, killing time until departing for our cruise.

For a short stop it's okay, but there's not a lot to do. The gardens are pretty. I think admission was $9 per adult. The big windmill is neat. There is a carousel that's good for kids.

This is a short activity (less than 2 hours) that consists of a windmill tour, petting some friendly horses, and walking through a few buildings that are quaint. If you are passing by Holland you should take a short time out to go here. If...More

Hi Joyce - the majority of our tulips are in bloom right now. Cold temps help the blooms stay longer so we're happy about the cooler weather. On the 10th we should still have many tulips in bloom. Keep an eye on our website... More
