Best view onMacknac Island

It's an uphill hike or a bike ride, but the Vistas are incredible. Recent additions include a historical exhibit which is nice. It is about 1/2 mile up the hill from Arch Rock

Fort Holmes is the highest point on the island and provides spectacular views. There are a couple ways to get here. A road leads all the way or you can take several stairs up from another road. Well worth the time and effort.

When we were on Mackinac Island 2 years ago,we heard about the site of the former Fort Homes being the highest point on the Island but we didn't manage to make it up there before we had to leave. So this time we were determined to go there first and get a panoramic view of the area from up there.... More

The short walk here was very nice. We were able to see skull cave and the cemetery. We took the stairs to get to the fort. At the top there is a great view. Much less of a tourist trap and it is free. I would visit here over the other fort.

The new fort based on the one of the original designs is worth the trip to the high point of the island.

Although challenging if riding a bike or walking up to this highest point of the Island, the view is worth the effort. It is nice to just go there, relax, and soak in the beautiful scenic loveliness that is sure to remain in your memory.

Very hard to get there, but well worth it! If you lug a bike up there the ride down is PRICELESS!!! Susie

Nice reconstruction, and an nteresting bit of history. Located close to other attractions. A good addition to the Island history.

My family decided to walk from downtown to Fort Holmes and it was a tough 45 minute uphill walk. The trip was worth it though with a nice brief history lesson and 360 degree views. It is the highest point on the island so it is a must visit for me if you are capable of walking here. Not many... More

So happy this was completed! Amazing to see this recreation. The workmanship is top notch. Seeing how that side of the island was defended was a wonderful experience. So glad i got to see this!
