Very Cold and Icy in March but well worth a Visit
Mar. 2021
Seeing Lake Michigan in the winter is worth the visit. Could not get too close to the lighthouse because of ice but the beaches and park area around the shore are nice to see and walk around, even in freezing weather.

We stopped and had the pleasure of walking out to this lighthouse while driving up the coast. The profile picture for this attraction does not at all reflect what the light currently looks like. It has been recently repainted. It has the boards intact on the second walkway, which is unique amongst the great lake lighthouses that i have seen. A very nice beach and parks surround this lighthouse. Parking is free all around and there are public restrooms.

Gorgeous views
Jul. 2020 • Family
Absolutely beautiful views! Get to the beach off 5th street before 11am and find plenty of parking. The lighthouse is painted perfectly and the pier is nice and wide to stroll on. **beware of some wet spots that can be slippery probably from algae growth** Better than most for families with small children, or strollers, etc. The 5th Street beach had a concession stand that opened around noon, and clean bathrooms.

Beutiful sunset
Jul. 2020
Worth a visit to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan. It was crowded but cleared out after the sun set.

Beautiful!
Sep. 2019
This is one of the MANY excellent lighthouse locations throughout the Great Lakes, and the surrounding area of this is not only easy to access, but a wonderful place to spend a day, week or the entire summer. I have many photo's of this light and the surrounding beach area.

Walk out to the lighthouse on the Manistee North pier
Dec. 2019
Visited Manistee in December of the year (2019). I always try to take a walk out on the pier to see what is going on. On this mild December night (37 degrees) there were a handful of fisherman on the pier, but nobody was catching anything.

From super windy to calm
Oct. 2019 • Solo
First day I went waves were crashing over the South Pier and part of the north. There's not much left of the beach, water is way high! Next day the lake was calm.

Beautiful little spot
Aug. 2019 • Couples
We spent about an hour here walking out to the lighthouse and back. It’s a beautiful little spot and a nice walk. Beach nearby is also beautiful with soft white sand.

Finally.....its been painted and looks great!
Aug. 2019
The last few times that we visited this lighthouse, it was in bad need of a paint job.
Well, it finally recieved one and looks better than it ever has! This is a very good spot for photo ops so dont forget your camera or camcorder. Good beach areas, Coast Guard station, fantastic riverwalk, good ice cream, and parks nearby. Not to be missed while in the Manistee area!
As always, be safe in your travels and....ENJOY!

Well worth the walk on the pier to the lighthouse
Jun. 2019
One of many lighthouses we visited in Michigan and this one was worth the visit. A nice wide pier and picturesque area with a great beach makes for nice photos. We were especially pleased with the views we got when we returned for the sunset. By standing on the beach, we could get the lighthouse and sunset in the frame at the same time which makes the photo even better.

Where do you park to see this? Is it a lot, metered street, etc.?

Is their a north pier camera I can check to make sure the pier is SAFE for me to be walking on the pier. I have traveled 100+ miles to get there and the waves were crashing over the pier. THANK-YOU, for your help!

I do not know of a camera, and yes, our Lake Michigan dictates to us whether or not we can walk out to the light. Do not ever try it when wave action makes the pier wet and slippery, do go to either 5th Avenue beach or First Street beach, and get some amazing pictures! 5th has a walk way for wheel chairs, walkers, or just folks who want to walk almost to water's edge to take pictures. And if it's warm, take a swim, or enjoy a snack at the shelter, there are rest rooms and lots of parking, no charge. There is a cement walkway over to the Coast Guard Station, another photo-op! Any weather, the North Pierhead is beautiful, and doing the job it was built to do, guide ship traffic in a 'strong-willed' lake.
