Dow Gardens is truly a garden for all seasons and is open all year. The gardens were developed in 1899 by Herbert H. Dow, founder of The Dow Chemical Company. They include massed plantings of annuals and perennials, a system of ponds, and collections of flowering crabapples, roses, viburnums, and rhododendrons. More than 20,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs are planted in the fall for spring blooms.Famed architect, Alden B. Dow, son of Herbert, added many architectural elements to the gardens. He believed as did his father that the entire beauty of the garden should never be revealed in a single glance. A walk along streamside reveals a curving pathway bordered by lush annuals and a stream, leading to an historic red bridge which takes you to the conservatory.Other attractions include the award winning Children’s Garden, a maze, and a rockery of dwarf evergreens near the entrance. Special events include the annual Christmas Walk, concerts in the gardens, butterflies in the conservatory, outdoor movies, and tours of the estate home.

I grew up in MI and never came to this garden until now, on a road trip 30 years later. These gardens are beautiful and so well maintained! Maybe I'm jaded having been to other gardens such as Butchart Gardens in Vancouver, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens,...More

You should tour the Alden B. Dow House first. It's extraordinary. The gardens are equally so. Take a long stroll around this extensive landscape and be amazed

Who would have thought all this beauty was hidden in Midland, Michigan? We were very pleased with the serenity and gorgeous garden. Only $5 to enter and you can rent a scooter to get around if walking is a problem for another $5. Great visit!

I live 100+ miles from Midland, but try to visit the garden at least annually. Lovingly maintained; charming and peaceful to visit.
