Welcome to Cradle of Life Take an old farmer's co-op, set amongst disused quarries, in the most stunning patch of untouched wilderness. Establish that this is in an area which is recognised as home to the oldest well preserved sequence of volcanic and sedimentary rocks on Earth and then raze the building to the ground! Now gather together some of the most creative minds around, add some eminent historians, geologists and people with a passion for conservation and you have a recipe for a wonderfully exciting development! The Cradle of Life in Badplaas. The Cradle of Life is just that, with the word Cradle signifying the early beginnings of life on earth. Records of Earth's earliest life forms, including microfossils, stromatolites, biomats and other organically derived material have been discovered in the adjacent Barberton mountains which have been dated at some 3600 million years of age. Life is very much part and parcel of the environment here, not only ancient, but modern too. The most impressive array of earthly animal species, exotic and indigenous, have been gathered together at the Cradle of Life. These include white lions, tigers, jaguars, pumas, leopards, cheetahs, Siberian wolves, hyenas and meerkats. There is also an absolute abundance of bird life including raptors and LBJ's for the birding enthusiast. View the latest list of birds here. Our 'fresh fuel', clean restrooms, and well stocked convenience store provide a welcome break on a long journey and our spacious restaurant will provide a range of delicious meals for travellers wanting to take a longer break on their journey. We also offer accommodation, venues for weddings, conferences, and game drives.

Fun stop

Fun stop to see animals with options to play with them. The brunch on Sunday is good. Over all a bit pricy for the food and activities.

This is an awesome place to visit. The safari's are great. They have exotic big cats in large enclosures that you can visit closely from the back of the safari vehicle. You are guaranteed to see wildlife. The restaurant at this venue is not good. Service is terrible and the food was cold

Thank you for your kind review. We are proud of our game reserve so it's nice to hear positive feedback. Sorry about the cold food and service at the restaurant. We have a new manager on board since your visit so I am sure this will not happen again. More

I made a reservation at the beginning of March for 3 adults for 1 night - 25 April at Cradle of life. Arrived at 16h00 after a long day in the car – check-in is scheduled for 14h00, only to find our chalet was never cleaned and other people's things were still in the chalet including boots, hand bags, etc..... Dear Glynis, Our sincere apologies - we are taking this complaint seriously. Unfortunately a chain of events led to your unit not being ready. The previous guests were late in checking out, (we had to ask them to leave a few times). When the housekeeper had access, she took off her boots to keep the floors clean, started cleaning the unit,... More

We did the Sunday Brunch and 2 hour feeding game drive afterward and it was great fun. The food was excellent with average table service. The brunch was well priced. We got an extra treat over brunch by getting to see a 9 month old Siberian tiger being bottle fed. The game drive was very interesting, especially the feeding of... More

We were traveling through and have stopped here before for a light meal. Breka was fine and not stupidly priced so it's a good feel when you leave feeling that value for money was received. The displays and wildlife on display are a added touch. Didn't see the tiger this time but on enquiry it still gets displayed daily.

They have a few good options for breakfast and light lunches at excellent value for money. The gardens are stunning. Nice facility for kids to play. Great rocks and exhibition area.
