A beautiful beach and quiet beach less than 30 minutes from downtown Leon. If you are looking to relax and surf instead of drink and disco, this beach will suit.

Up with the sun, cross the river from Barca de Oro, and run with the waves to the cross 1,5 km away. Quick dip in the waves before shower and breakfast. Perfect morning before the heat comes.

This isn't the nicest beach I've been to. The sand is really hot and the water isn't clear. But if your into surfing the waves are really strong and lots of people were surfing. I got the bus here from Leon was really busy as was Samana Santa holidays but it took 45 minutes from the mercado. I really came... More

The waves here are incredibly strong, but so fantastic! I'd check out the hostels in the area, as well as some of the amazing seafood dishes at the restaurants. Be aware that the surf is incredibly strong, and the town is very small.

Penitas is a cool colourful town, very friendly people, nice beach, but be careful because the waves are a bit dangerous, great for surfing (and watching others surf) but its hard to get back to shore if your swimming, tiring! Really amazing place to watch the sun set!! Stunning!! I defo recommend going!

Definitely worth the 20-30 minute ride from Leon! There are many places on the beach to set up and spend the day - enjoying drinks and food. You can try surfing here, enjoy climbing the rocks, or a walk down the beach to the interesting points on either side. Beautiful sunsets over the Pacific can be seen here without a... More

I love this place. It is super quiet and not a lot of people. When we were there in last february it was clean and we walked there everyday.
