I went volcano boarding this April and I would highly recommend it!! It was great to hike up Cerro Negro, and the views are amazing. The hike was tough with the board, especially in the hot sun. It's possible to pay a local guy $5 to carry your board up for you, and while that may have been the easier... More

This was the highlight of our trip to Nicaragua. Our guide for the day was Archie and he was excellent. He actually learned everyone's names in about 15 minutes. We had a large group that day, 35 people. Archie led us up the volcano, encouraged us when it looked too intimidating and took many photos (which you can see on... More

I'll admit that I wasn't prepared for the strenuous claim to the top of the volcano, but with encouragement I made it! The slide down was exhilarating! A very well organized tour. Even if the ride to and from was very bumpy, the beer afterwards made it all worthwhile! Thanks Ocean!

Definitely pricier than some of the other options ($40 vs $30). We went with Bigfoot because they are the original, the guide was really nice and it was a great experience with great people. However, if I was to recommend a friend I would tell them to go with Quetzeltrekkers, they charge $30 versus Bigfoot charge $35 and QT include... More

Great atmosphere from the start to the end. Very informative and you get all information you need to be safe and fun. You willl get a free tshirt and can buy orange bandanna for 1$ which you need to cover your face. They provide all equipment and you can pay 140 cc ( $5) to the guy who will carry... More

A bunch of us (34 in total) went volcano boarding with Bigfoot. Our enthusiastic, knowledgeable, helpful, funny and all around lovely guide Oceane took us to Cerro Negro and gave us the experience of a lifetime. The ride Down the volcano really was everything they said it would be; steep (42 degrees!), fast, noisy, scary and even potentially dangerous. Which... More

Up to now my backpacking adventure has entailed staying in local places in small or remote locations with a relaxed vibe. As such, I fancied a change to break up my trip and hadn't had a few drinks in a little while. I read about this hostel in Lonely Planet and thought I'd stay here for two nights. The facility... My boyfriend and I went with Bigfoot Volcano Borders - the place that started it all - to whip down Cerra Negro. It was a great experience, and the hike was much easier than I anticipated! The pros of going with Bigfoot: - the t-shirt - the cool truck with tunes to get you there - the speedometer to measure... More

The hike was great and the boarding as well. But you go with a big group on the hike, on the way to the volcanoe which takes you 1 hour the hostel staff turned on hip hop music. If you like that, that's great. But I don't. Besides the mojito after which was included in the price only tasted like... More

This hostel was not my cup of tea. If you are looking for a party, and convenient shuttles back and forth to the beach, it might be for you. They had a great bar, cafe, and offered what sounded like fun volcano boarding tours. I found it difficult to sleep due to the loud music.
