Passing through the Christmas market we pushed towards this castle, called Kayserberg but named after the real castle of Schlossberg. In this season, access rather easy even if it climbs hard, ground and slippery stairs be careful. Arrived at the "summit", surprised, we can climb in the tower, the only perfectly preserved vestige! The view is very beautiful!

The ruined château sits high above the town. There are 3 routes to the top and we opted for the easiest (longest) route which took about 15 minutes. The view from the château over the town is great. I recommend climbing the tower (about 110 steps) to get the view from the top. I’d advise taking a torch or using the one in your phone as some of climb is in very little light. There is a rest/passing alcove half way up. We took the stairs back to the town which took about 10 minutes.

Lovely view of the town from the tower. The town itself is absolutely ridiculously gorgeous!! Amazing, beautiful, quaint…and so many adjectives I don’t have space to write. I was like a gleeful child taking photos at every turn. Not only was it beautiful to look at, the smell was intoxicating. Who doesn’t love the smell of gingerbread and pastry…c’mon. I’d love to live here.

The Christmas market in Kaysersberg has gone from a marvel to a free-for-all, as the crowds are so dense and dragging slippers
one store to another. The icing on the cake is that some merchants refuse credit cards.
Fortunately other Alsatian villages have been able to control their success.

Bien cordialement,

The village is very beautiful, very cute. I went up to the castle independently so apart from the Tower that I climbed (bring your cellphone flashlight because the stairs are barely lit or not at all) and enjoying the view, I didn't do anything else. There are explanatory panels about its history, it’s nice.

Disappointed. In fact apart from the view once you climb the 324 steps, there is nothing...
So let's go Well Shoded!!
Upstairs, no light for the tower staircase (thanks cell phone)
Only interest: exercise after the meal 😉

As you walk along the picturesque Main Street in Kaysersberg, the castle tower up on the hillside is a real focal point. To be honest, it really isn’t that high above the village and the stroll up through the vineyards is hardly taxing.

Once at the top however, the views of the village and the surrounding countryside are excellent, so forget any negative reviews re the climb - have a stroll up and enjoy yourself.

A short walk from the village centre through the vineyard to the castle. The view over the village and valley is well worth the walk and isn't too strenuous.

Kaysersberg in general is an absolute must! This town is so quaint and beautiful. We felt as though we were transported back in time and on set of the "Beauty and the Beast" story.

You can take the stairs to the top of the Chateau or you can walk on a path that winds through a vineyard. Both get you to the top, but one is a bit more scenic.

So much to see!
