First of all, I hiked only half of the trail, from the road southwest to the Big Carp River. Secondly, I hiked in mid-August when the trail was fairly dry. The trail is a bit misleading in that it really doesn't hug the shore much. For that matter, you can't even see the lake much of the time. When you... More

I will preface this review with ultimate respect for Mother Nature and the other reviewers who gave this trail a 5 out of 5. My boyfriend and I just completed this trail this past weekend and rate it a 2 based on our unfortunate experience of having to traverse it in the rainy season - however, this was the optimal... It is a beautiful trail. Sometimes you hike right on the beach, sometimes in the forest. There are several river crossings. The trail is dotted with backcountry campsites right on the shore, and a few rustic cabins. Cabins need to be reserved, and you will need a key from the information center. They are furnished with bunk beds, table, chairs,... More

Two of us, about 70, and friends for more than half those years had a great hike today. Started from Speakers Trail on the South Boundary Road, hiked to the Lake Superior Trail that took us to the Presque Isle Scenic Area. Nice hike through virgin forests of mainly Hemlock. Three places where we had to go down and across... More

Parked at the trail access point just down from the Lake of the Clouds and hiked to Lone Rock before turning back. The trail has some challenges with the loose tock but the views were great and the thimbleberries were tasty. We passed backpackers and had our lunch near Lone Rock before turning back. Overall this trail was excellent and... More
