Lived in Michigan all my life and this was the first time here. It was VERY cool. We watched 2 freighters go through and the museum was very informative and so were the gentlemen that were working.

You can watch the freighters come in and go through the Soo Locks, changing water levels on the St. Marys River. You can watch from a elevated platform or the park next to it. It does take a bit of patience to watch it from...More

The locks are awesome when you look at what it took to construct and then operate the huge gates. There are some great videos and displays that detail all of the past, present, and future plans for the Soo Locks.

The Visitor's Center was our first stop, where we got good information on when a big freighter would be coming through the locks. Several displays there to view while waiting for the ship. The viewing gallery (covered, outdoor) was perfect for watching a ship go...More

Took Soo locks boat tour and was just found it so interesting that the technology for these locks was from the 1890's. It was a great way to see the locks.

Go inside the white building by the main gate and it will be posted when they have it and they will also answer any questions you may have.
Is the observation deck easy to access by people with some mobility issues, eg COPD, step climbing limitations?
