I had to choose one of the dates listed, but we have been to the Island four or five times. i family loves it. We stayed at the Light house up in the tower with our three teen daughters--junior high through high school. That particular trip was at least 12 years ago. We have not forgotten that wonderful experience--it comes up often in our conversations. We can't say enough about the wonderful people who run the place. Each time we go back, we always drive there for lunch and shop just for the sake of remembering our visit there. We still have the hundreds of pieces of sea glass we picked up on the beach. Best vacation ever!!

For a family of four, we paid $10 for entry to see the lighthouse museum which permits you to climb the 72 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Definitely worth it for the beautiful views (but use common sense - dont go when it's cloudy/rainy).
Note: we drove here planning to also stop at the restaurant but as the lady at the lighthouse desk told us, they're not in operation.

The inn (hotel?) is very nice, newly renovated, the rooms are comfortable, a good size, and have private balconies with a great view of the sea.
Great place for a walk on the beach, which goes on forever and starts a few steps from the inn door.
Breakfast is so-so, few choices, toaster not working when we went (brand-new place, inexcusable!), and service at the desk is amateurish - took forever to check in, and wasn't even really busy.
The restaurant is a short drive up the road, and it's a downright disgrace.
Unpleasant (not to say ugly), poorly laid out room, nonchalant service, mediocre menu with very few choices, non-existent presentation, so-so food.
....and this place is relatively new! They used to have a dining room at the inn, and it was bad, but at least it was on-site.
This place is much worse.
I have no idea what the owners were thinking, but they should revisit the entire thing - there's nowhere else to eat, closest place being the Tim Horton's in O'Leary, a 20-minute drive.
So by all means stay at the Lighthouse, but bring your own snacks!

This lighthouse stands out from the others due to its unique shape and black and white striped pattern.
The location is magnificent - very nice beaches at Cedar Dune Provincial Park - and the lighthouse is worth the visit.
A note regarding lighthouses on PEI: once you've visited one or two, they're all pretty similar, unless you're a historian, in which case reading up on the history of each might make it worth a visit to each. For us, a family of four (two kids, aged 6 and 9) visiting two lighthouses was perfect.

Clean and new. Balcony overlooks the peaceful beach. Boadwalks among the dunes for an evening or morning stroll. Very calm. Would visit again.

This lighthouse if beautiful and looks like the picturesque lighthouse; however, the interior restaurant is really a disappointment. We were expecting a lovely dining experience to match the outside, and were greeted with what may as well have been a Waffle House. The food was overpriced for what we were served. It is only worth it to eat there if you drive all the way out and then find that you are really hungry, as it isn't near anything else.

For a delightful, calm visit. Come enjoy the sound of the ocean by the red sand beaches.
I've travelled plenty in my life and can honestly say that I have only see red sand beaches in Australia so how awesome was it to find some right at home in Canada.

I would absolutely recommend the West Point Lighthouse! I stayed there with my Mom this past summer and we had a terrific time!! The staff was very friendly and Scott (the manager) went above and beyond. We had our own little patio with a table and two chairs. The breakfast was great! Everything was very clean and the atmosphere was wonderful. You get a free pass included with one night's stay into the Lighthouse museum. Great view, beautiful sunset, and you can hear the waves at night when the wind is blowing, very peaceful.
How often do you get to say you stayed overnight in an active Lighthouse?

We stayed here for one night during our recent trip around PEI and Nova Scotia and were so impressed with everything!!! The room was wonderful- great balcony, lovely furnishings and perfect location!! We ordered dinner from the restaurant up the road and they were so gracious to deliver it to our room so that we could enjoy the sunset from our balcony. We loved the lighthouse attached to the hotel and would come back to stay in a heatbeat!!

Is there still a beach to walk on after the hurricane? Is there a beach at the and of MacDonald Rd in West Point?
Written January 23, 2020
We were there in September 2019 the week after Dorion passed. The beach can still be walked but there was a lot of damage to the dunes. There was talk about possibly moving the lighthouse back from the beach.

Hi-
We Will be taking a cruise in 21 days, and this is one of our reports we will be stopping at. The excursions for tours through the cruise line are so darn expensive that I was hoping I could get some advice from the locals.
Primarily, for two seniors who cannot do a whole lot of walking what are the best things to see on this island? I am very partial to light houses, but I don't want to rent a car or anything.
Can anyone give some advice?
Regards, Mary

Take a tour. Don't drive. You'll waste your time driving. It's about 2 hours drive from West Point Lighthouse to Charlottetown, one way. If you take a tour, they will show you popular highlights plus you won't have to drive.
