Excellent flat paved trail from campground to south haven. Saw two deer. Some road crossings but they are not busy.

Motor vehicles including snowmobiles are only permitted on unimproved section of trail which runs from Hartford north to I-196 expressway. Beyond the expressway north the trail is paved and motor vehicles are not permitted.

The trail from downtown South Haven out to Van Buren State Park is a nice paved trail, and a good way to escape the summer crowds of the town and can be done on any bike. The trail that branches off towards Hartford is pretty much unimproved and is best if you want to justify the fact that you own a mountain bike. My wonderful wife and I spent an afternoon at this beautiful park. Highlights included the beach and views of Lake Michigan. The park has one of the largest camping areas I have ever seen. And I have been in parks all over the U.S. Great for families, couples, or solo adventuring. Michigan should be proud of this great park.…
