For a paid trail I would expect the trail to be better maintained. There were many broken tree branches on the trail that should have been removed. There were about 5 long snakes crossing the trail.

We biked this trail on Father's Day with our two young kids and had a great time. The trail is flat and nicely paved with manned attendant booths along the way. Even our 4 year old was able to bike about 6 miles on his own since it was so flat. There are great places along the trail to stop... More

My wife and I enjoyed a three day getaway with a ride on this trail the highlight. Required a brief bit of navigating road construction from St. James Hotel in Red Wing but once we arrived at the trailhead it was a smooth ride through many wild flowers growing by the trail and lots of songbirds.

Yesterday was the ultimate spring day to ride. This is a wonderful place to ride because of the smooth surface. We went from Cannon Falls thru to Red Wing. Flowers are blooming, birds are singing. There were a few oth riders. There are benches along the way as well as side trails. There are bicycle pumps and tools to fix... More

We ride the Cannon Valley trail 2 or 3 times a year and always find it enjoyable. It is an easy ride as it is paved and has minimal elevation change. There is a nice midway rest stop in Welch. On summer weekends there is live music at Welch. Along the trail keep an eye out for wild life as... More

Really nicely maintained, paved trail from Cannon Falls to Red Wing. I usually just go from Cannon to Welch - the half way stop. Great Ice Cream at the Trout Scream in Welch. I take it with kids and even my seven year old was able to make it all the way to Welch. Nice views of the Cannon River... More

Beautiful trail. Almost entire 20 mi to Red Wing runs along Cannon River. Wonderful stop in Welch for breakfast and later ice cream. about 1/2 way,at Trout Scream cafe. Slight uphill grade on way back to Cannon Falls. Definitely recommend, even for those who don't bike often.

Biked the trail while camping at the Frontenac State Park over the weekend, it is about 40 miles both ways, mostly flat paved trail, will be suitable for roller blading or roller ski as well. The trail is beautiful, runs along the Cannon river. We started the trail at Red Wing all the way to Cannon Falls then rented the... More

It's about a 19-mile ride from the parking lot on Highway 61 in Red Wing to Cannon Falls on the Cannon Valley Trail. That's a round trip of about 38 miles or so. Better to start at Red Wing as there's a slight uphill incline on the trip to Cannon Falls--it's easier pedaling down hill on the return trip to... More

This trail is well maintained with a beautiful view. It's well traveled by bikers, walkers and skaters. Pavement is pretty smooth and goes a nice long distance. Cool fix-it posts at the ends for bike trouble. Trail usage fee for bikers and skaters. Great location just south of the cities and accessible through Red Wing, Cannon Falls or Welch in... More
