Finished in 1908, this Lake Superior 39-room mansion enjoys a rare, intact collection of original furnishings and art. Because of that, it closely resembles the days when the Congdon family first occupied it. Truly, it is Duluth's answer to Downton Abbey.

Situated on a wooded lot, the home boasts spectacular views of Lake Superior, as well as, multiple gardens including formal, flower and vegetable. Guests are also encouraged to explore the carriage house, boat house, stone bridge and pier. Children enjoy the pebbled beach for hours of rock skipping while parents take in a sit on one of Adirondack chairs.

Be sure to check out Glensheen as part of your must-do Duluth bucket list.

We had group that was touring the "full" mansion in celebration of a co-worker's retirement. Most of us had been to the mansion previously, just not all had been on the 3rd floor (which is what is included in the full tour. We were looking forward to the tour and spending time together to only be disappointed in our time.... More

Glensheen is truly a special place, I have visited it's in the grounds several times. There's so many incredible pieces of art and just even light fixtures in the home are totally amazing pieces. The house itself is beautiful as well. The history of this family is very interesting and the grounds are beautiful. Definitely need to visit at least... More

The mansion is impressive, but the tour guides really make show. Jesse, our guide, was very knowledgeable and an excellent orator. His sense of humor was natural and he didn't seem to mind that I was constantly taking pictures while he addressed the group.

This tour was so much fun! The weather didn't provide us with enough snow to justify snowshoes so we has a guided walk around the grounds instead. The turnout was huge and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We learned a ton of fun history and trivia about the area. The guide did a fantastic job. We ended the tour with... More

Dazzle your guests with refined elegance that can only be found at The Glensheen. This historic beauty is placed on Lake Superior Shores and has quite the interesting murder history. You can book your fairytale wedding, private parties with the on-site coordinators or just walk through on a daily tour.

Beautiful mansion with tons of history. The tour guide was excellent. Our tour guide told us wonderful stories of the past. I would recommend this tour to people that are over the age of 10 Although The mansion is not fully accessible for people who have a hard time with stairs. They just recently opened up the third floor for... More

This place is a gem. Been there twice. Really well preserved. Shows all the details the family thought through. 1.5 hour tour is worth the cost. Won't talk about murders unless you ask specific questions. Worth a visit.

This is an extremely interesting place to visit when in Duluth exhibiting an extremely affluent lifestyle in the early 1900s. The grounds occupy 12 acres on lakefront and the building was erected in1909 and cost $850,000 to build way back then. The equivalent of $80 million today. Chester and Clara Congdon moved in with their 7 children and assorted maids,... More
