I hadn't been to an open pit mine since I was very young. Very worthwhile stop. The folks manning the store were very knowledgeable. They have nice trinkets for sale. Free will offering if you choose.

The visitor center was open on Sunday, so that was a surprise. Lots of opportunities for pictures here. Very cool for city kids! Oh, and leashed pets are welcome!

This is a must see for sure. At this point they are moving this site to another spot in 2018 to expand the mine. The store closes at 5 and they mean it.

Visitors center has posted hours, but you can see the mine from the parking lot at any time. During open hours you can climb on the huge machinery and learn a bit about mining. The mine itself is awesome to see. Absolutely huge. And it...More
